Annetta J. Wasson

Annetta Joy Tankersley Wasson, 83, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020. She went peacefully, surrounded by her family and ending her battle with a longtime illness. There will be a graveside service for immediate family only, facilitated by Rose-Neath Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Annetta's son-in-law, Pastor Art Evans, at Forest Park Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd., Shreveport, LA. Annetta was born on December 21, 1936 in Snyder, TX. She was the oldest girl of 11 children. No wonder she found her most amazing gift in life extremely early, caring for others. Annetta was born in the West Texas Wild but spent most of her life in Shreveport, LA when she married her husband, Jolley Gary Wasson in 1958. She became a mother soon after her marriage and raised four darling children, Robin, Suzanne, Sharon, and Wendy, until her most joyous surprise arrived later in life with the birth of her fifth child, Jennifer (Jen) in 1977. Annetta had many jobs in life, but her most important was raising her family. She was Mom & Mama to her children and their spouses, Nana to her many grandchildren & great-grandchildren, and Aunt Nina to her nieces & nephews. Annetta was a very intelligent woman and so well-read. She always kept up with the latest thrillers and did her crossword puzzles daily. She was an amazing cook and passed her knowledge down to anyone who would join her in her kitchen. She could put out a spread like nobody else, from her biscuits & gravy, chicken taco pie, hot water corn bread & mustard greens to our evening treats of lemon pound cake, German chocolate cake, and her cherry coke salad. If you ever needed anything, a meal, a place to stay, an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on, Annetta was always there. She sent up prayers for everyone on a daily basis. Annetta had struggles, including the loss of her loving husband, Jolley on February 14, 2014 and her precious daughter, Sharon on March 9, 2015, but she always remained strong. Her strength, resilience, and perseverance will not be forgotten and were great examples for us all. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Robin and wife, Terri Wasson; daughters, Suzanne Mason and husband, Randy Mason, Wendy Evans and husband, Art Evans and Jen Wasson, and wife, Ida Ansell; grandchildren, Aaron Wasson and wife, Jacquelyn Wasson, Nate Wasson, Shelby Mills and husband, Chase Mills, Rachel Noble, Michael Selby and wife, Emily Selby, Katie Joy Scott, Hannah Evans, Atticus Axton, and Ben Evans; great-grandchildren, Piper Noble, Noah Wasson, Hudson Mills, Xander Scott, Ryker Selby, Ollie Mills and Henry Jack Wasson as well as her many siblings, their spouses, and children. Annetta was the epitome of a matriarch, a leader, the grandest of grandmothers, wise, funny, and loving. We will miss her so, but we know she is dancing in some fancy shoes with her loved ones in Heaven.
