Aspasia Mandrapilias

Aspasia "Cassie" Theo Mandrapilias returned to the Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents John Constantine and Sofia Kalo Theo, and her husband Nicholas Louis Mandrapilias. Born May 30, 1929, Cassie grew up in a Greek-American enclave of families in the Highland area of Shreveport. After graduating from C.E. Byrd High School, she attended Centenary College of Louisiana, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music in 1951. While attending a Mardi Gras party in Monroe, she met a young soldier who was stationed at Ft. Polk. Nick and Cassie continued their dance of life for the next 67 years, enjoying their children and grandchildren, now reunited once more. Cassie was a devoted member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Working with children as a Sunday school teacher and imparting the faith through music was one of her greatest joys. She was also a committed member of philanthropy, through her membership in the Daughters of Penelope and Ladies Philoptochos Society. A trailblazer in the '60's, she entered the workforce at age 40 as a personal assistant to executives at Equitable Life Insurance while continuing to be a full-time mom. Her faith in her Lord and Savior, and her devotion to her family and friends, were the foundation of a life well lived. She was loved and adored by many, for her kind and generous spirit, her joy of living and her ability to make others laugh, smile and feel valued. Like her husband, she knew no strangers, and she was most happy in the company of others. She will be missed by all who knew her. Cassie was preceded in death by her loving brothers, Gus J. Theo and wife, Poppy Ballas Theo and Jim J. Theo and wife, Evangeline Pappas Theo, all of Shreveport, LA. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Louis Nicholas Mandrapilias of Los Angeles, CA, Laura Mandrapilias FitzGerald of Shreveport, LA, Tim FitzGerald of Shreveport, LA, Sophia Mandrapilias Winter and husband, John Winter of Loveland, CO; grandchildren, Miles Alexander FitzGerald of Shreveport, LA, Mary Collins FitzGerald Krantz and husband, Ben Krantz of Brooklyn, NY, Nicholas Conner FitzGerald of Shreveport, LA, Geoffrey Addison Winter of Denver, CO, Faith Constance and Shelby Winter of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, Breiss Alexandra Krantz and Julian FitzGerald Krantz; her beloved brother, Andrew Theo and wife, Koula of Houston, TX; her cherished sister-in-law, Mary Mandrapilias, of Athens, Greece and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren, Sophie Theo Duke, Lisa Skamangas and Christina Casten Lester, whom she also adored. Her family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Dan Moller, Dr. Richard Tingle, the loving staff of Montclair Park, Linda Myers, Ann Inabnet and The Carpenter House nursing team who so tenderly assisted Cassie during these last years and to her loving nieces, Sophie Theo Duke and Patrice Theo Gaydos for their loving care and attention to our mother over the years. Honoring Cassie as pallbearers will be Anthony Theo, Nicholas Conner FitzGerald, Geoffrey Winter, David Lester, Matthew Solice, Trey Tomasek, Nolan Thomasek, and Austin Jordan. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Palmisano, Jr., her godchildren, George Karageorge and the late Anthony Gekakis. We regret that due to the pandemic, funeral services will be for immediate family only. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made in her honor to her beloved St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1719 Creswell Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71101.
