Audrey Lewis

Audrey Watson Lewis, our loving, gentle Mama and Mimi, left this earthly home to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face early Sunday morning November 25, 2018. It is then when she was also reunited with her beloved husband of 63 years, C.A. "Jack" Lewis Jr. Left to cherish her memory are her son, C.A. "Jackie" Lewis III and wife Chris and her daughters, Carol L. Jones and Cyndi L. Hutchinson and husband Brian. Her spark and zest for life is a testament to how long she fought to stay here with us. We were blessed with small glimpses of her quick wit and sense of humor to remind us that she was still in her declining body. Audrey was born in El Dorado, Arkansas to Dale E. and Frances Watson on November 17, 1927. She married Jack, the love of her life, on January 18, 1947. She graduated from Fair Park High School where she was an officer in the ROTC. She worked for years at JCPenny Company, Tri-State Furniture Company, and was credit manager of Booth Furniture Company. She was also a substitute teacher at Bossier Elementary. For many years she was a member of Caddo Heights Baptist Church (now Woodridge Baptist Church), where she sang in the choir and was a long time Sunday school teacher. Audrey and Jack worked for years helping to shape countless lives by working with the youth of the church. In later years, they both faithfully served at First Baptist Church Bossier and Airline Baptist Church by singing in the choir and dedicating their time as much as their health would allow. Audrey was a member of the Ruth Sunday school class of Woodridge Baptist Church, Women's auxiliary, an avid bowler, and read anything she could get her hands on. She was a member of the Lions Club and enjoyed traveling with the senior adult choir at Airline Baptist Church. Audrey also loved to cook, and was the "cool" grandma who had the BEST snacks at her house! In later years, the running joke within the family was to beware what you eat when opening the fridge, it wasn't a shock to see 10 or more Country Crock containers - never full of butter - but full of leftovers that tested the limits of food expiration dates! Luckily, we all survived the holiday that she experimented with "oyster dressing!" Audrey was generous with giving her opinion, whether it was asked for or not. She and Papa loved their Gevalia coffee in the afternoons, and of course shared EVERYTHING they ate or drank with their beloved dog, Rocky. Mimi, as she was known to her grands and great-grands, also loved to write poems that were published in Readers Digest and we are blessed to still be finding notes from her in books and bibles that she left us. As a grandma, she kept up with the latest fads and always gave her grands the best presents at Christmas. More importantly she gave us her "presence" whenever and wherever she was needed. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dale Jr. and W.D. "Billy" Watson; sister, Maurine Fulkerson; baby sister, Kathleen; son-in-law, Robert J. "Bobby" Jones; great-niece, Kristen Lewis; and great-nephew, Johnny S. Brock. She is survived by her son, Jackie and daughters, Carol and Cyndi. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Heidi Lewis, Christine Lewis, Brandi Lewis, Casey J. Nichols and Chad, Robin J. Ramsey and Guy, and Brayden Hutchinson; beloved great-grandchildren Cierra Lewis and Quinton Lewis, Ariel Fogden, Kaden and Avery Bagwell, Abigail, her namesake Caroline Marie, Joseph, Samantha and Grattie Ramsey; beloved great-great-grandchildren of Cierra Lewis, Emalynn and Isabella; nieces, Dianne Brock and Johnny, Linda Johnson and Herbert; nephew, T.J. Fulkerson; great-nephew, Rusty Stanley and wife Robin; great-nieces, Kim Mobley and husband Mark, Kellie Johnson and husband Steve; great-great-nieces, Abbie Mobley and husband David, Katherine Rankin and husband Chris; great-nephew, Matthew Johnson and wife Amber; great-great-nephew, Mark Mobley and wife April; sister-in-law, Nadine Ross; niece, Sharon Martini; nephew, Terry Lewis; great-nephew, Cody Lewis; great-niece, Lauren Norris and husband Joe; sister-in-law, Peggy Joy Faries; nephews, Ricky Faries and wife Cindy, Mark Faries and wife Rae; niece, Nancy Ross and husband Dennis; and a host of extended family. A special thanks to Dr. Richard Sipes, Stephanie Anderson, Tiffany McCain, Rae Franklin, Amedisys Hospice staff, and the entire staff at Montclair for their unending love they gave to our mother and grandmother. Also to Tommy Patton from Cypress Baptist Church. Audrey's favorite bible verse that she lived by and stood upon her entire life was Philippians 4:13. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Centuries Memorial Park with Rev. Harrell Shelton officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside. Honoring Audrey as pallbearers will be Kaden Bagwell, Brayden Hutchinson, Chris Landman, Cody Lewis, Terry Lewis, and Quinton Lewis. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Alton Johnson, Jerry Elkins, Leroy Faith, Bill Crow, deputies of Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, deacons of Airline Baptist Church, and deacons of Woodridge Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to the building fund for Woodridge Baptist Church, 850 E. Bert Kouns, Shreveport LA 71106. woodridgeshreveport.org 318-861-3519.
