Brea, CA - Barry Clegg Hope, 78, son of the late Herman C. and Lonnie Belle Hope, passed away on Saturday, December 28th. His wife and sons were by his side. Barry was born on June 4, 1941 in Shreveport. He attended Centenary College of Louisiana, where he was an active member of the Theatre Department and the Centenary College Choir and was a founding member of the Iota Theta chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, launching a lifelong career as an actor and producer. Barry was a Vietnam War veteran who served as a Captain in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Barry resumed his acting career at the Dallas Theater Center under the direction of Paul Baker. This launched his life-long career as an actor and producer. His career took him to Chicago, where he was recognized as Producer of the Year for a musical version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." He met the love of his life, Karen Haptas, in Chicago, where they were both cabaret performers. Barry is survived by his wife, Karen; his sons, Edward Winn and Herman Clegg; his sister Linda Hope Cox, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at The Supper Club in Shreveport at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow. A subsequent informal reception will be held at the Hope residence in Brea, CA at a date to be determined.
