Beth McKenzie Castaneda died in Arcadia, Louisiana on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the age of 67. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Airline Drive in Bossier City, Louisiana. Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Airline Drive in Bossier City, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Cottage Grove Memorial Presbyterian Church in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. Beth was born on July 15, 1950 in Shreveport, Louisiana, of the marriage of Marion McKenzie and Audrey Boggs McKenzie. She was preceded in death by her father Marion McKenzie. She is survived by her mother Audrey Boggs McKenzie Sabin of Ruston, LA; sister Martha McKenzie Hayes & husband Tim Hayes of Ruston, LA; son David Castaneda & wife Addie Winegeart Castaneda of Charlotte, NC; niece Megan Hayes Johnson & husband Hutch of Fayetteville, AR and nephew Noah Hayes & wife Jennifer of Oakland, CA. Beth was a graduate of the class of 68 at Airline High School in Bossier City, Louisiana. She later received her bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as obtaining a paralegal certificate from Louisiana State University - Shreveport in Shreveport, Louisiana. Beth was also a lifelong member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Bossier City, Louisiana. Beth had a lifelong passion for music, cooking and culture. Having learned to play piano as a child, Beth pursued her passion for music through the Airline High School Band before becoming the youngest member of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra at the age of 18. Later, Beth relocated to New York City as a resident at the famous Rehearsal Club while playing piano for the Broadway musical The Fantasticks. Additionally, she played piano for supper clubs in New Orleans, Shreveport and Dallas. Continuing her musical growth, Beth eventually relocated to New Mexico living just outside of Taos and later in Albuquerque. During her time there, Beth fondly fell in love with Southwestern culture, cuisine and lifestyle. Honoring Beth as pallbearers will be cousins Hank Boggs of Benton, Louisiana, Sammy Boggs of Plain Dealing, Louisiana, Ray Boggs of Plain Dealing, Louisiana, Hal Boggs of Bradley, Arkansas, Tommy Carter of Jackson, Mississippi, and Pat Boggs of Plain Dealing, Louisiana. The family would like to thank the staff at Leslie Lakes Retirement Center in Arcadia, Louisiana and Trinity Home Health for the care they gave Beth in her last few months.
