Arcadia - Billie Hines was born into the large family of Maraion and Edna Walker Magouirk in Pine Island, an oilfield community near Vivian, La. and passed away in Huntsville, AL. She had two brothers: James and Dorlin, and nine sisters: Gladys, Ethelene, Dorothy, Ruby, Helen, Myrlene, Maurine, Miriam, and Coleen-and only Coleen survives Billie. Billie is also survived by Harry, her husband of 55 years, son Mark Hines, daughter Betsey Hines Riggins, son-in-law Michael Riggins, grandsons Benjamin and Spencer Riggins, and three generations of nieces and nephews.
Bilie had a strong work ethic and succeeded in a number of jobs. As a high school student she worked in Sam Kottle's store in Vivian and part-time for Jules Fogel's "Caddo Citizen" newspaper. As an adult she worked for Pan American Petroleum, First National and Citizens banks in Vivian, then for Jackson Parish Bank in Jonesboro, LA. Next she worked for the bank regulators FDIC at Bossier City and Shreveport and RTC at Valley Forge, PA.
Billie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she once served as Worthy Matron. She received a 50-year certificate from the Order.
Family history and unity became a consuming interest, and after her stint with the RTC, she returned to Friendship, LA, to devote much of her time to genealogy and research, and to recording her findings in a book. She also devoted much time to staying in contact with her family through cards and e-mails; and to compiling scrapbooks. Billie left a great deal behind as a reminder of her passing through this world.
The visitation will be held at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, LA, on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, from 11:00 am to 12:30 PM. Following the visitation, Billie will be brought to the Friendship Cemetery for a 1:00 p.m. grave-side service. Bro. Kelly Leach will officiate.
