A Memorial Service for Bonnie Root, 86, will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Spur, Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating will be Pastor Bob Moore.
Bonnie was born February 7, 1935 in Westfork, Arkansas to Joseph Stevens and Lillie Rankin Stevens and passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021 in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Bonnie grew up in the wild mountains of Arkansas. From an early age she chose the role of caregiver. Caring for her grandmother as well as her younger siblings. When she was 28 years old she met Ronald Root. They quickly fell in love and were married in Cowetta, Oklahoma September 15, 1964. Together they raised two daughters, Patricia and Peggy. After her children were grown, she continued to be a caregiver to her mother-in-law, Ida, who suffered from Alzheimer disease. In her later years Bonnie enjoyed crocheting and just spending time with her children and grandchildren. Family was very important to her. She loved deeply and always had a kind word and smile for whomever came across her path.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald Root; sisters, Edith Brown and husband, Jim, Evelyn Hite and husband, Harold, Mae Halpain and husband, LeRoy; brothers, Everett Stevens and wife, Jean, Jack Stevens and wife, Lucille, Allen Stevens and wife, Ruby, Dole Stevens and wife, Rosie, Bill Stevens and wife, Helen, Audie Stevens and wife, Joyce, Junior "Shorty" Stevens and wife, Jeanne, Ern Stevens and wife, Elenor, Omar Stevens; sister-in-law, Donnie Stevens; son-in-law, Sean Gardner. She is survived by her brother, Alfred Stevens; Children Patricia Gardner, Peggy Shepherd and husband, Lloyd; grandchildren, Jerry Gardner, Marissa Gardner, Cody Naber and Spencer Naber along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Gardner, Cody Naber, Spencer Naber, Lloyd Shepherd and Alfred Stevens.
