Carrel Malcolm "Mal" Hausman was born in Corpus Christi, TX on November 1, 1934. He died on September 20, 2016 at the age of 81 after a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by his parents Shirley Elaine Marbury-Hallett and Gerald Marbury-Hallett. After the death of Mr. Hallett, his mother married William Frederick Hausman who adopted Mal in 1941. Mr. Hausman was a very special father to Mal.
His is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edith Robinson Womack Hausman and his son, Keith Womack and wife Tami of Reno, NV; four grandchildren: Ashley Hausman Castille (Chad) and their children, Makenzie Rebecca, Payton Emily and Abigail Elizabeth of Hockley, TX; Malcolm Reece Womack and wife Nicole of Shreveport LA; Meredith Anna Womack of Magnolia, AR and Garrett Todd Womack of Reno, NV. He is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Rian Elizabeth Crook and her father, Major Keith Crook. Other family members are Stephanie Henry Bryant (Michael), their two sons, Quinn and Connor of Philadelphia, PA; and Kevin Henry (Kim) of Monroeville, PA. He was preceded in death by his sons, Edward Kirk Womack, William Michael Hausman, Carrel Richard Hausman and daughter, Sherry Lynn Ivey. Also preceding him in death were two granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn Ivey and Taoshia Patrice Hausman-Crook.
Mal was a retired general manager of a Ford dealership in Houston, TX. He thrived in this business and won many awards and gifts from Ford including cruises, a trip to Australia, Caribbean Islands and Alaska to name some. He made a multitude of friends in the Houston area. For 34 years, he lived in Friendswood, TX. In 2006, he and his wife moved to Arizona, LA to the home that Edith's grandfather Spigener had built in 1928. He loved being with his friends, golfing, hunting, fishing and working crossword puzzles. He often said that the best years of his life were spent with his two sons, Keith and Kirk Womack, especially their hunting trips in Texas and Colorado. His fishing trips with dear friends, J.K. Moore and Robert Chambers to Mexico and South America were some highlights of his life.
Mal was a veteran of the Vietnam/Korean War serving as a Marine Corporal at Camp Pendleton, CA and in the Marine Reserves; a member of the Masonic Lodge of Houston, TX, and Homer, LA; and was a member of the Arizona United Methodist Church and the Homer, LA Lions Club. He also was a member of the Claiborne Parish District 6 Fire Department. He was a Deacon in the First Methodist Church in Friendswood, TX; Vice-President of his high school's Letterman's Club, the captain of his football team and was voted the most courteous student at Miller High School by the faculty. He attended Del Mal College in Corpus Christi. Mal and Edith helped organize the All Play Football Club in Friendswood, TX. He was a member of the Houston Rodeo and Stock Show, serving on several committees. After Kirk's tragic accident and death, he organized the Kirk Womack Memorial Golf Tournament which resulted in over $60,000 being given as scholarships to graduates of several Bay area high schools. Mal managed to get big name players to come out and support the tournaments. Some of those were Houston Oiler players, Dan Pastorini, Charlie Tolar and King Hill, along with Houston Rockets player Jim Peterson. Their appearances truly helped in the bidding for signed footballs and basketballs. Mal's friends and family from all over Texas came to support this scholarship effort, as well as many local men who were Mal's, Keith's and Kirk's friends.
The family will receive visitors from 2-3 p.m. before the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 E. 5th St., Homer, LA. Private graveside rites will follow at the family cemetery, "Forest Grove", in Arizona, LA at a later date.
The pallbearers will be his surviving son, Keith Womack of Reno, NV; his grandson, Malcolm Reece Womack; granddaughter, Meredith Anna Womack; J. D. Teel, Jim Wright, Ed Chaffin and Jack Cranford (his Arizona Community friends and fellow church members) and nephew Doug Pike.
Honorary pallbearers will be his childhood friend, J. K. Moore of New Braunfels, TX; Frederick Spigener of Athens, LA; Robert Robinson, Jr., of Benton, LA; James Wafer of Homer, LA, and Charlie Thomas of Houston, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Arizona United Methodist Church, 427 Methodist Camp Road, Homer, LA 71040; the Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 929, Ruston, LA 71273-9976; or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
