Charles I. Caskey passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in Haughton, LA at the age of 85.

Charles was born March 15, 1933 to Ivan and Berta Caskey in Arcadia, LA. He grew up in Arcadia and attended Louisiana Tech University until he joined the military.  He served his country as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Wasp and USS Lexington where he played trombone as a member of the Admiral’s Band.  After his time in the Navy, Charles returned to school, graduating from Louisiana Tech and later earned his master’s degree from the University of Louisiana Monroe.

Charles began teaching high school in Strong AR and was the Band Director at Tallulah, North Caddo, and Woodlawn High School and Midway Middle School over his 20-year teaching career. The impact he had on his student’s lives was apparent as he received many calls over the years from his former students expressing their appreciation for his presence in their lives.  After retiring as an educator, Charles stayed busy by delivering for the Shreveport Times in Haughton’s Dogwood Subdivision and managing Cories Self Storage facility until he finally decided to retire in 2016.  Charles enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and entertaining his children, grandchildren, and their families at his home on Lake Bistineau.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty S. Caskey. He is survived by his son, Steve Caskey and wife Brenda from Haughton, LA; daughter, Elizabeth McMahen and husband Russ of Flower Mound, TX; grandson, Charles Ivan Caskey II and wife Kayla; granddaughter, Jennifer Bell and husband David; grandsons, Cameron McMahen and Creighton McMahen; great grandchildren, Parker, Madison, Hunter, and Caroline; brothers, James Caskey and wife Betty of Shreveport, LA and Jerry Caskey and wife Katie of Arcadia, LA.
