Funeral services for Charles "Charlie" L. Dean will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the Blanchard Church of Christ, 117 Williams St., Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Graveside services will follow at the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 6382 Primitive Baptist Church Rd, Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating will be Pat Cella, Leonard Dean and Sean Embree.
Charles was born to William Caleb Dean Sr. and Vitae Smith Dean on March 12, 1927 in Springhill, Louisiana and passed away at home with his family at his side on Saturday, June 19, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Charles was a member of the Blanchard Church of Christ for 66 years, serving as an Elder for over 50 years. He was an avid music student and song leader. As a result of his love of evangelism, Charles served as a board member of Shreve Christian School and Ark-La-Tex Christian Encampment. He was known for his habit of carrying tracts and books to give to others in order to share the plan of salvation. He worked in construction as a carpenter and cabinet maker. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed raising animals, gardening and selling produce and eggs at farmer's markets.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Embree; brother, Alvis Dean and sisters, Katie Mae Haddox, Corrine Taylor, Alice Coon, Emma Coon and Cora Smythe. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Virginia Kent Dean; brother, Dub Dean; son, Leonard Dean and wife, Becky; daughters, Kristy Hall, Deanna Fitts and husband, Herschel, Melissa Cella and husband, Pat; grandchildren, Michelle, Charles, Grant, David, Ryan, Hannah, Sean, Patrick, Kent, Casey, Lindsey and Collin and great-grandchildren, Ella, Alex, Liliana, Piper and Xander.
Honoring Charles as pallbearers will be grandsons, Charles Dean, Grant Glover, Ryan Cella, David Dean, Kent Cella, Casey Cella and Collin Cella.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Ark-La-Tex Home Health and Southern Care Hospice for their care and compassion given to Charles.
