Charles was born December 21, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He suffered a debilitating stroke in 2018 and continued to decline until he went home to be with Jesus February 28, 2021. Charlie Thompson, or the \"Sound Man\" as he was known by countless people, led an extraordinary life making his hobby a career. He began Thompson\'s Sound Service in 1959 with one small public address system. He also married in 1959 and, to help support his family, he took on other jobs. One of those was at radio station KCIJ where he worked a short time with Doug Davidson and Wolfman Jack. As Thompson\'s Sound Service took off he worked such venues as The Louisiana Hayride, where the great Elvis Presley played. It was there he became friends with the legendary guitarist James Burton. Throughout his career he worked with many other entertainers such as Burt Reynolds at his dinner theater in Florida. He also worked with Jerry Reed, Count Basie, Aretha Franklin, Ike and Tina Turner, Boots Randolph, Hank Williams, The Carpenters and many more. Charlie supplied the PA system when then Vice President George Bush came to Shreveport in 1983. He provided sound for the Louisiana State Fairgrounds livestock barns and arenas, for the water ski tournaments on Champion Lake, and the Natchitoches Christmas Festival for 20 years. He installed sound systems in many local churches and businesses. His business continued to grow and he moved it from his home to a large shop on Marshall Street. Charlie Thompson became a bit of a celebrity in his field and local bands and young sound technicians would come to him seeking his advice. Charlie was blunt and to the point but he cared about his customers and most are still friends. About 10 years ago Charlie semi-retired and moved to Bernice, LA. Here he enjoyed working on his property and cutting grass on his tractor. He was providing PA systems mostly for Lucas Oil sponsored boat races in such states as Arizona, Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas. He was still working just weeks before his stroke. He will truly be missed by his family and friends. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Edith Thompson, and his infant son, Brandon. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Lodie Owens-Thompson; his children, LaNeita ElArab and husband, Sam, Charlene Moore and husband, Ronny, Gloria Wray and husband, Rusty, J. Hilton Thompson, Ann LeBlanc and husband, Jerry, Kendra Regan and husband, Dean; his sister, Kay Thompson; niece, Sue Jones; nephew; Anthony Adley, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
