Clayton Spurlock

Athens - Graveside services will be held for Clayton M. "Jack" Spurlock, Jr., age 73, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at Hurricane Cemetery. Bro. Bob Jameson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Jack was born July 18, 1946 in Bryceland, Louisiana to Clayton M. "Bud" Spurlock, Sr. and Evelyn Hicks Spurlock. He entered into rest on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, in Athens, Louisiana, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Jack was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard for seven years, and retired from Ludlow/Berry Plastics after working 45 years. Jack also proudly served his community of Athens as chief of police, chief of the fire department, and by serving as Alderman on the city council. Jack was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a love for NASCAR. It has been said that you haven't met someone from Athens that Jack hasn't helped. Athens will not be the same without him. Jack is preceded in death by his father Clayton M. "Bud" Spurlock, Sr. and brother-in-law Danny Volentine. He is survived by his mother Evelyn Hicks Spurlock, wife Anna Brown Spurlock, siblings; Diane Volentine and Terry Spurlock, children; Nancy S. Thomas and husband Lance, Suzanne S. Blackwelder and husband Pat, Jarred C. Spurlock and wife Vanessa, John Danforth, Vivian Hanna, and Vonda Madden and husband John, grandchildren; Devin Thomas and wife Macey, Caid Thomas, Jessica Dooly and husband Cody, Karli McLain and husband Patrick, Julia Roberts, Payton and Ashton Blackwelder, Grace Velisse Spurlock, Annie Hanna, Lacey Winn, Sydney Hanna, Vivi and Bryar Madden, great grandchildren; Cooper Brance Thomas, Mason Roberts, Karma Dooly, Autumn Pilger, and Teagan Winn, niece Leann Chambers and husband Richard, nephew Kevin Volentine, great nieces Morgan and Maddy Volentine, great nephew Kaden Volentine, and by numerous other loving relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Devin Thomas, Caid Thomas, Bryar Madden, Cody Dooly, Patrick McLain, and Ryan Meader. Honorary pallbearers will be Buzzy Buckner, David Liles, Sam Dowies, Tommy Davidson, Jeff McNeil, Carrol Spurlock, Darryl Spurlock, John Madden, Keith Watkins, Kevin Volentine, Ken Volentine, Richard Chambers, Gary Williams and Ardis Powell.
