Arcadia - Cynthia Monk Martin, age 87, passed away peacefully Friday, November 23, 2018, at her home in Arcadia. She was born November 10, 1931, in Colquitt, Louisiana, to John Meadows and Nora Ratcliffe Monk. She was a graduate of Haynesville High School and Northwest Louisiana Vocational and Technical Institute. She married William Lee "Billy" Martin in 1948, and they made their home in Haynesville. She worked for thirty years as the office manager of the Gladney-Haynes Clinic in Homer. She later worked as the office manager for the Women's Breast Center in Shreveport and, finally, as a real estate agent until her retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church Arcadia; and, before her illness, she was a faithful member of Lou Murphy's Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; a daughter, Cindy Lou Martin; two brothers, Samuel Monk and Billy Monk; three sisters, Elnora Tanner, Frances Bailey, and Nell Holmes; and a granddaughter, Cyndee Leigh Martin. She is survived by daughters, Suzanne M. Taylor, M.D. of Shreveport and Patti N. Martin of Arcadia; sons, Thomas L. Martin and wife Karen of Minden and James W. Martin and wife Paula of Arcadia; grandchildren James P. Martin and daughter Gracie; Chelsea A. Martin; Krisxan, Zayne, and Jaxton Bell; sisters in law, Earline Collums and Voncille Bond; and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Clifton Salmon and his entire staff for the loving care given to her during her illness. She also had three special caregivers whom she loved dearly: Jessie Wayne, Dottie Wright, and Wendy Pyles. Visitation will be Sunday, November 25, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. The funeral will be held Monday, November 26, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Arcadia with burial following at New Ramah Cemetery outside Haynesville, Louisiana. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Baptist Church Media Fund, 2249 Hazel Street, Arcadia, Louisiana, 71001.
