Dorothy Slay, 63, of Mansfield, LA ascended to her heavenly home on Friday, June 10, 2016 after a very short, but hard fought battle with cancer. Visitation will be held on Monday June 13th at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Services will be held at 10am Tuesday, June 14th at Rose-Neath Chapel in Mansfield with Rev. Everett Kingston and Rev.Thomas Tuck officiating. Interment will follow at Prude Cemetery in Stanley, LA. Mrs. Slay was born October 16, 1952 in Ringgold, LA. She was a loving wife and mother, known to many as the cake lady for making the best cakes and sweets around. Dorothy was married to her best friend and husband Wain Slay for 44 years. She truly loved everyone and was always there to lend a helping hand. Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Ayres; father, Lester Ayres; brother, Ray Ayres; son, Phillip Slay; three nephews, Joe Ferguson; Chris \"Poncho\" Ferguson and Tim Ferguson. She is survived by husband Wain Slay, son Michael Slay & wife Lori; two sisters Shirley Ferguson and husband James, Kay Bonnette and husband Garry; one brother David Ayres Honoring Dorothy as pallbearers are Brad Burr, Justin Ferguson, Matthew Ferguson, Kenneth \"Spooky\" Freeman, John LeBlanc and Steve Melton. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Phillips and Jim Sullivan. The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Boniol and everyone at Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center and St. Joseph Hospice for their support and services provided during Dorothy\'s illness.
