He had bravely fought Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis for almost two years and was recently approved for lung transplantation at Duke Medical Transplant Center before losing his battle with IPF. Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 16, 1948 and spent his youth in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where Bob attended Martin Behrman High School for his senior year, graduating in 1966. He received his Bachelor of Science from Nicholls State University in 1970 and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He obtained his Master's Degree in 1972 followed by an Ed.D in 1975, both from University of New Orleans. Bob began his professional career at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 1974, after which he was invited by Chancellor Allen Copping to the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans to serve as his Executive Assistant, followed by joining the LSU System in 1985 serving as the Assistant to then President Allen Copping. Over the next 28 years, Bob served in multiple administrative, academic, and executive positions at LSU. As the LSU Assistant Vice-President for System Relations for 11 years, he provided sound guidance and steadfast assistance to dozens of LSU Board of Supervisors Chairs and Members before retiring in 2014 after 40 years of dedicated service, loyalty, and commitment to excellence. Bob will always be remembered for his exceptional kindness and loyalty to LSU and be forever known affectionately as "Razz" by his LSU family and many friends. In recognition of his forty years of academic service, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at New Orleans named him LSUMC New Orleans Professor Emeritus Ed.D. Bob proudly served on the Campus Federal Credit Union Supervisory Committee for 16 years as well as served on numerous LSU Academic and Executive Committees. He was a member of the Mid-South Educational Research Association (MSERA) proudly serving in various capacities from 1974 - 2015. He was instrumental in the formation of the Mid-South Educational Research Foundation, a Non-Profit organization whose mission is providing support for the functions and activities of the MSERA and served as the first President of the MERSF. Bob was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing golf with his friends at Stonebridge Golf Course, where he finally made his hole-in-one in 2018! He enjoyed taking annual golf trips with his Louisiana and North Carolina friends. He was an enthusiastic history buff with a particular interest in WWII, influenced by his uncle and namesake who made the ultimate sacrifice during the D-Day invasion. Bob was a devoted LSU and Saints football fan who also enjoyed reading, movies and his sweet Jack Russell Terrier, Lizzie. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Harold Rasmussen and Frances Council Corbitt. Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, Wendy Redmond Rasmussen; two daughters, Gena Tynes and husband, Robert of Slidell, Louisiana and Celeste Rasmussen Peiffer of New Orleans, Louisiana; sister, Sharyn Riley and husband, James of Bloomington, Indiana; stepsons, Paul Baker II and wife, Farrah of Bossier City, Louisiana and Christopher Baker and wife, Danielle of Haslet, Texas; five beautiful granddaughters, Megan and Amelia Tynes, Cecilia Peiffer, Ireland and Autumn Baker and niece, Anneke Riley and husband, Scot and nephew, Andrew Riley and wife, Vivian. Our family would like to thank the physicians and staff at Ochsner - LSU Health Shreveport Pulmonary Department for their exceptional care, compassion and expertise over the past two years and the kind support from our Ochsner Health friends and colleagues.
