Elizabeth Dyson, 91, of Bossier City, passed away peacefully March 24, 2015.

She was born Elizabeth Maria Katze, June 8, 1923 in Nestomitz, Czechoslovakia of German descent. During World War II Elizabeth and her parents were separated and conscripted into work camps. Elizabeth was later drafted into the German army.

When the war was over she was exiled like many others and sent on a train to Berlin and told to seek aid in the American zone. It was there where she worked in a snack shop, that she met American G.I, John Dyson. They married on October 1, 1948. Leaving her family and everything she knew behind, Elizabeth then moved to the United States with her husband. On October 22, 1949, they welcomed a son, Larry. She became an American citizen in 1952.

After her husband died in 1954 while serving during the Korean War, Elizabeth moved to her husband’s hometown of Montgomery, Louisiana. With the help and encouragement of friends and family, she enrolled at Northwestern State University and graduated with a degree in elementary education. She spent 20 years teaching at Judson Elementary in Shreveport until she retired in 1980.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, John William Dyson and her parents, Emil and Rosa Katze. She is survived by her son, Lary John Dyson and his wife, Debra Dyson; a granddaughter, Sarah Dyson Hemperley and her husband, Nathan Hemperley; and a great grandson, Liam Herperley.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Shreveport on Marshall St.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Union Grove Cemetery in Montgomery, Louisiana with Rev. Buster Page officiating.
