Emma Nell Gantt Gandy

Graveside services for Mrs. Emma Nell Pike Gantt Gandy, will be held Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Hurricane Cemetery, at 2:00 p.m. Emma Nell was born July 19, 1930 in Simsboro, Louisiana to James and Ollie Choate Pike. She was the first of the children to be born with red hair. Her mother and grandmother both had red hair, so she was named after her grandmother. She started school in the Hurricane Community. In the fourth grade, her family moved to Ringgold. Her family started going to church at Springhill Baptist Church, where at the age of 12, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. In 1945, her family moved back to the Hurricane Community where she went to school until the 7th grade. Since the school only went to the 7th grade, her and her siblings finished school in Athens. When Emma was 16 years old, she met Louie Gantt, who had just come home from Italy, where he was stationed during WWII. They dated for two years, and on September 3, 1947, they married in New Orleans, Louisiana. They started their married life in the Cross Roads Community. In 1949, they welcomed their first son, Dennis Gantt. And in 1952, their second, Vick Gantt. In 1959, Louie and Emma opened a furniture and antique store, Gantt's Trading Post, in Homer, Louisiana. In 1983 Louie Gantt passed away in a plane crash. Emma kept busy with the store until 1989. And in 1998, Emma met Dewell Gandy. They were married in June of that year. They spent 8 wonderful years together until his passing in 2006. Emma stayed busy with her growing family that she dearly loved, with her yard work, where she loved tending to her roses and other flowers and going to church meetings at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Emma went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 20, 2020. And written in her own words after the passing of her son Vic, she too is having a "Hallelujah good time in heaven with Jesus and so many loved ones up there." She looked forward to the day she would join them. Emma was a blessing to her family. She was a faithful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is preceded in death by her husbands; Louie Gantt and Dewell Gandy, sons; Dennis Gantt and Vick Gantt, siblings; Ralph, Mosley, Joe, Malvin, and Edwin Pike, Cascile Lemley, Bobby Jean Breaux, Camille Canterbury, Juanita Hawk, and Helen Breaux. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters-in-law; Stephanie Gantt and Cyndy Gantt, grandchildren; Rance Gantt and wife Stephanie, Chance Gantt and wife Alyssa, Clint Gantt and wife Tiffani, and Cassidee Gantt, brother Alf Pike, by great grandchildren Emerson, Addison, Story, Dawson, Chandler, Randon, and Weston, and by numerous other nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends. The family would like to thank Dewell's children, Alice, and the late Duffy Gandy, Brenda Crank and Alison Rains. A special thank you to the Presbyterian Village staff and Dr. Mark Haynes. "Through it all we have had our Precious Savior to help us, to keep our faith and hope in Him." Emma Nell Gantt Gandy
