Erma Eastburn Barnard, 88, of Benton, LA passed away peacefully in her home on November 18, 2019. Born May 8, 1931 in Shreveport, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Walter Leroy Eastburn, Sr. and Nina Mead Cavanaugh. Erma attended and graduated from Fair Park High School and then began several years of traveling that landed her in Florida with her cousins, Betty and Gloria, where she enjoyed year 'round summers. During her travels she began a pen pal relationship with an acquaintance from back home who was serving as a Sergeant in Germany during the Korean War; they married in 1952 when he returned stateside. After a brief period as a homemaker she joined the workforce as an administrative clerical manager for various oil and gas companies in Shreveport area. She was active in the community through her business sorority, Beta Sigma Phi and after retirement she spent her time working at the local daycare and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Erma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, June Gayle Barnard; sister Carol and brother Ronald. She is survived by her children James Paul Barnard and wife Donna, Denise Barnard Pritchett and husband Michael, Debra Barnard Franz and husband Ken, John Gayle Barnard and wife Lisa; Grandchildren Angie Sweeney (Craig), Jim Walters (Sara), Lindsey Fortenberry (Mark), Jeff Walters (Melissa), Alyssa Keith, Jared Marlowe, Brittney Lynn (Greg), Rachel Franz, Stephanie Barnard and seventeen great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Home at 1815 Marshall St. in Shreveport from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m, Friday November 22, 2019. A graveside service will be held at Centuries Memorial Cemetery 8801 Mansfield Road in Shreveport, La, Saturday November 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. The family would like to thank our Pearl for your unconditional love and countless hours of companionship and care you gave; we love you dearly. The family would also like to extend our gratitude to SouthernCare Hospice for their loving care and guidance, especially Cindy who gently navigated us day and night through this difficult time and transition.
