Frances Bywater

Frances "Joy" Bywater of Shreveport, Louisiana, also known and loved by many as "Memommie," entered into rest on October 29, 2020, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Rose-Neath Southside. The family will be receiving friends at Rose-Neath Southside on Friday, November 6, 2020, between 5 and 7 PM. Joy was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, June 29, 1931. She was a graduate of Fair Park High school and a member of the South Shreveport Church of Christ. Joy was a caring daughter, devoted wife, and doting mother and grandmother. Joy pursued work interests with AT&T and Puckett Laboratories, where she worked alongside her husband, Billy Bywater. At age 67, she went back to school to obtain vocational training. Soon after, she secured employment with the Office of Youth Development in Shreveport. During her years of employment there, her grandmotherly love comforted the troubled children that she encountered, and she made many, many friends. Joy was a remarkable woman who always thought of others before herself. She enjoyed showing her adoration by baking cakes and treats, particularly in times of need. She loved to laugh, and those who knew her will forever remember her mischievous sense of humor and the brightness of her smile. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Billy Bywater, father, Mayfield Carpenter, mother, Ozella Carpenter, daughter, Brenda Carol Bywater, sister, Margaret Ramsay, and brother, Solomon Carpenter. Mrs. Bywater is survived by a daughter, Joy Lynne Bywater, a granddaughter, Heather Lynne Mathis, a grandson-in-law, Willard Robinson, a grandson, Christopher Glen Harper, a brother, David Carpenter, a sister-in-law, Ruth Carpenter, and numerous friends and loved ones who consider her as family. Her family would like to express their gratitude to many loving friends who have helped them through this extraordinarily difficult time.
