Geraldine Toups

Geraldine Martin Toups entered her heavenly home on August 25, 2018. She was born on July 7, 1943 to Preston and Blanche Martin. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Claude Martin and Harry Martin; and sisters, Pat Martin and Fern Martin. Geraldine was the beloved wife of 51 years to Jerry E. Toups, Sr. and mother of Jay (Jenny), Eric (Tiffany), and Jeff Toups. She was the loving Mamaw to Luke and Jack, Annabelle and Zeke, and Kaylee and Kathryn (and their mother, Kelly Toups). She is also survived by sisters, Francis Barrish and Betty Jo Snead as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Geraldine's love for the Lord, music, her family, and friends was evident to all who knew her. She was a life-long resident of Shreveport and a 1961 graduate of C.E. Byrd. She worked many years as a secretary at United Gas, AT&T, and LSUS. Geraldine was an extremely accomplished pianist. She enjoyed playing for family gatherings, weddings, church services, funerals, and programs, often playing a piece by ear. She even appeared on a local TV show at 5 years old playing the piano. All family gatherings included musical entertainment around the family piano. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren to local nursing homes to entertain the residents. Every family member knew her love for them. Her hugs were long lasting, her sincere compliments touched your heart, and you always left her presence feeling special. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Pastor John Lary of Calvary Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Dalton Toups, Roland Toups, Kenny Phillips, Zack Watson, and her grandsons, Zeke, Luke, and Jack. Honorary pallbearers will be Derrick Snead and Preston Snead. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Geraldine Toups to Calvary Baptist Church, 9333 Linwood Ave.
