Hendrica Weiland

HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Hendrica "Hennie" Ravensbergen Weiland, 94, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church of Homer, LA, on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA. The family received friends at the church from 1-2 P.M., prior to the service Mrs. Hennie was born on March 21, 1925, and grew up in Rijnsburg, The Netherlands, South Holland, to Johannes and Jacomina Glasbergen Ravensbergen. She entered into rest on Saturday, June 15, 2019, in Homer, LA. She survived the Nazi occupation of Holland during WW II and began corresponding with Wietze Weiland, a dutch soldier. They fell in love and married after the war and had two sons born in Holland. In 1955, Hennie and Wietze made the decision to emigrate to the United States. She came to this country not knowing any English. The next few years she spent caring for her young family, learning the English language, and studying to become an American citizen. In April of 1968, she began teaching home economics to students at Evergreen Presbyterian Vocational School. Mrs. Hennie retired in April of 1988. On March 5, 1991, shortly after moving to Lake Claiborne in Homer, her beloved husband passed away. Many people in the area will remember seeing Mrs. Hennie riding her bicycle on the surrounding roads. Her goal was 3,000 miles per year and she achieved that until the age of 89, when an ankle injury prevented her from riding. Mrs. Hennie was a faithful member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and served in the Comfort Ministry of the United Methodist Church of Homer. She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, and soul, serving Him faithfully all her life. She loved her family and friends dearly and was a blessing and an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Mrs. Hennie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wietze Weiland; two brothers, Piet Ravensbergen and Dick Ravensbergen; and a grandson, Brian Warren. She is survived by her two sons, Dr. T.W. "Chip" Weiland and wife Rhonda of Roswell, NM, and J.J. Wieland of Homer, LA; a granddaughter, Kate St. Clair and husband Stephen of Lubbock, TX; two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Bennet; a sister, Catharina van Nieuwkoop of The Netherlands; two brothers, Jan Ravensbergen and Philip Ravensbergen, both of The Netherlands; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Gabe Hogan, Micky Boyle, Kate St. Clair, Ryan Harmon, Stephen St. Clair, and Cody Long. In lieu of flowers honoring Mrs. Hennie, her family suggests memorials be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church of Homer, LA.
