Mansfield, LA - Graveside services honoring the life of Hope Ryder Calhoun will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Highland Cemetery in Mansfield, Louisiana. Rev. Thumper Miller, Rev. Clista Adkins and Rev. Wayland Gant will be officiating. A reception will follow at First Baptist Church in Mansfield at 12 noon after the graveside service. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Ryder, Kirk Calhoun, Zac Calhoun, Peter Moncrief, Zach SanSoucie and David Calhoun; honorary pallbearers will be Benny Hives, Murray Calhoun, Glen Adkins, Mike Woods, Michael Woods, Charles Amie, Douglas Heck, and Brent Gentsch. Hope was born February 1, 1924 in Pineville, LA and she passed away at her residence in Mansfield, July 22, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years, Riemer Calhoun; grandchildren, Allen and Clay Calhoun; and her brother, Dr. Lew Ryder. Hope graduated from Louisiana College then earned her Master's in Social Work from Tulane University. She was a longtime resident of the Mansfield area where she actively worked with the DeSoto Parish Planning Commission. She also was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield where she taught Sunday School for many years. She will always be remembered for her caring heart by her family, and friends from all walks of life. She is survived by Tom and wife Beverly Calhoun; Carolyn and husband Bill Huckaby; sister, Billie Ruth Koch; grandchildren, Kirk and wife Brooke Calhoun, Clista and husband Glen Adkins, Tracie and husband Mike Woods, Mary Evelyn Whitehurst and husband James Thomas, Murray and wife Caroline Calhoun and Marian and husband Greg Snapp and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces Suzy Gann, Robert Ryder, Garrett Ryder, Darryl Ryder, W. Lewis "Bud" Ryder, Jr, Cheryl Brightwell, Jan Bosely, Alycia Griffiths, Annette Ryder and Brenda Ryder. The Calhoun Family extends a special Thank You to Hope's caretakers, Willie V. Thomas and Julia Price; special friend, Benny Hives; and her doctors, Dr. Dan J. Moller and Dr. Denis F. Kamberov and the staff of Louisiana HomeCare of Mansfield and the staff of Superior Hospice.
