Jacqueline Thomas Thurmon Jacqueline Thomas Thurmon passed away on November 15, 2015 at the age of 96. She was born in Ringgold, LA on March 23, 1919. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Noel United Methodist Church, 520 Herndon St. on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Dr. Wybra Price and Rev. Mimi McDowell with music by Brian Bierbaum. Visitation will be in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. prior to service. Mrs. Thurmon is survived by one daughter, Judy Butcher and husband Jerry; one son, Doyle Thurmon and one sister, Jeanette Corley of Ringgold; six grandchildren including Jay Butcher and wife Nancy of Mandeville, children Jacqueline, Camille and Junah Butcher; Julie Hartley and husband J.D. of Shreveport and son Jackson, Kelly Thurmon of Zwolle, La; Neal Thurmon and wife Allison of Walker, LA andChristopher Thurmon and wife Patti of West Monroe, La. She is preceded in death by her parents George and Christine Thomas, son Thomas Van Thurmon, one sister Margie Martin, two brothers Dr. George Thomas and John Albert Thomas. After graduating from Ringgold High School Jacqueline, most often called \"Jackie\" attended Whitworth College earning a B.S. Degree then later receiving a Master\'s Degree from Northwestern graduating Magna Cum Laude. She also attended La. Tech earning thirty hours toward a Doctorate Degree. Her thirty year teaching career began in Castor and Ringgold. She completed her years As Bienville Parish Supervisor of Attendance, Home Economics and School Food Service. Active in State professional organizations relatedto her work she made numerous trips to Washington, D.C. to lobby for free breakfast and lunch programs now available in Louisiana public schools. She served as President of Louisiana State School Food Service and was honored with a lifetime membership. Jackie was a member of Noel United Methodist Church and especially enjoyed her friends in the Mother\'s Class. She was a \"pink lady\" volunteer at Schumpert Hospital for seventeen years. Jackie was an avid gardener and loved sharing her beautiful flowers. As a most talented person she was always busy with ceramics, sewing, needlepoint, cooking and knitting winning many blue ribbons at the fair. A joy in her life was traveling with her longtime friends, Agnes Grafton and Doris Gaston of Bernice, La. Jackie lived a happy life and will be remembered fondly for her many talents, good nature and love for her family. Memorials may be made to Noel United Methodist Church. The family wishes to give special thanks to Donna Kelly for her loving care and dedicated service making Jackie\'s later life happy and comfortable. The family also acknowledges the wonderful care administered by Willis Knighton Hospice, Cynthia Gage and Tristy Sullivan
