James Avant

  SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of James Murry Avant will be held on 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017 at Woodridge Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Charles McInturf officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. Murry was born December 4, 1939 in Verda, LA to Clarence and Lois Brady Avant, and passed away on May 16, 2017. He proudly served his country in the US Army. Murry met and married the love of his life, Connie Taylor, in September 1961. Together they made their home in Shreveport where they raised their sons. Murry loved to hunt, garden and fish. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Murry was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lois Avant; brother, Troy Lynn Avant; and sisters, Lillie Patterson, Velma Gregory, Catherine Davis, and Eleanor Le Barron. Left to treasure his memory are his loving wife, Connie Taylor Avant; sons, James Avant and wife, Donna, and Jeff Avant and wife, Suelena; grandchildren, Brandon Avant, Sydnee Avant, Nicolas Avant, and Nicole Avant; brother, John C. Avant and wife, Jean; sister, Murriel Covington; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Honoring Murry as pallbearers will be, Brandon Avant, Nicolas Avant, John Coleman, Rickey Ellzey, James Herring, Bill Candler, Jack Bonnette, and Davy Holland.
