A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of James Charles Chico will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 204 Patton Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be Father Charles Glorioso. Burial will follow at Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana. The Vigil Service will follow at 6:30 p.m. James Charles Chico was born June 10, 1939 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Fredrick Chico and Zena Elizabeth Glorioso and passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 after a brief illness. Jim was a beloved son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He attended St. John\'s High School, Spring Hill College and Louisiana Tech University. Upon graduation he taught at St. John Berchmans Elementary, St. Vincent\'s Academy, Louisiana Tech University and C.E. Byrd High School. After leaving the teaching profession, Jim went to work for AT&T as an engineer associate. He worked there for a number of years and retired from Avaya when the plant closed. Always being a science teacher, he then went to work for Sci-Port Discovery Center where he was known as \"Mr. Jim.\" Jim was a veteran of the United States Army. Upon leaving active duty, he joined the Army Reserves and was a member of the 4013th Garrison Unit, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lt. Col. Charles Chico. He is survived by his wife of fifty years Carol Malec Chico; three sons, James Chico, Jr. and wife, Amanda, Clinton Chico and wife, Tania, and Brian Chico Veuleman and husband, John and grandchildren, Jordan Chico, Brendan Chico, Madelynne Chico, and Jackson Chico. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Christus Schumpert Highland for their compassionate care. The family suggests that memorials may be made to St. Jude Children\'s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, Shriners Hospital for Children-Shreveport, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 71103 or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
