BENTON, LA - Services for James L. Shelton will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Rose-Neath's Bossier Chapel. Officiating will be Quincy Gardner of Airline Drive Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery with U.S. Navy honors. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2016. James was born November 10, 1944 in Galveston, TX to James and Lena Mae Stephens Shelton and died November 14, 2016 in Shreveport, LA. James served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from the State of Louisiana Department of Corrections as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of Airline Drive Church of Christ. James was preceded in death by his parents; dad, William York; son, David "J.D. Shelton" Hanlon and sister-in-law, Dina Evans. He is survived by his wife, Allison Shelton of Benton, LA; daughters, Cynthia Shelton of Dallas, TX, Angela Mathews of Heflin, LA, Veronica Shelton Farmer and husband, Bradford of Atlanta, GA, Cecilia Monroe and husband, Torrey of Charleston, SC and Theresa McLain and husband, Scott of Pensacola, FL; son, Ian Hanlon (Becca) of Bossier City, LA; sisters, Clois Germany of Victorville, CA, Lisa York-Williams and husband, Chris of Hitchcock, TX; brothers, Michael Evans of Dickinson, TX, Vearly Evans and wife, Gwen of Texas City, TX, Charles York of Hitchcock, TX, Eugene Shelton and wife, Sandra of Houston, TX and Kenneth Shelton, Sr. of Texas City, TX. James is also survived by 11 grandchildren; two god children, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Special thanks to his sister-in-law, Connie Hensley and husband, Dennis, who generously gave their time and for the special care they gave to James and to all the medical teams who provided loving care to James.
