A Memorial Service for James "Lamar" Turnage, age 65, will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral home at 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Derek Joyce of First United Methodist Church in Shreveport.
Lamar was born on October 1, 1955 in Jackson, Mississippi to James Paul Turnage and Irma Lee Smith Turnage. He passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021 in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Lamar was a resident of Waskom, Texas. He graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport in 1974. He was a talented baseball and football player throughout his years in high school. He was selected to be on the All-City football team. His love of sports was evident through his coaching and involvement in his sons' baseball and football days as well. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and found great joy in fishing with friends and family throughout his life. He was a Christian man. Also, he enjoyed watching football, especially the LSU Tigers. A hard worker, he worked many years as an HVAC Mechanic.
Lamar is preceded in death by his parents, James Paul Turnage and Irma Lee Smith; his sister, Ruby Faye; and brother, Sam Turnage. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kelli Doyal and husband, Cade; his son, Kyle Turnage and wife, Jamie; his son, Jason Turnage; brother, Paul Lee Turnage and wife, Carol; sister, Debbie Kay DeClark and husband, Dave; grandchildren, Drake, Landri, and Payton Doyal and James and Lane Turnage; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
