Janice Irene Bryan Mayes ,78, was born August 10, 1941 in Trion, Georgia to Marian and John Bryan and went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 9, 2020 in Bossier City, Louisiana. Janice was the third of six children. She was proud to be the head majorette for Trion High School. Janice graduated from Free-Hardman University with an education degree. She planned to teach school, but her life took her a different direction. She was a successful retail buyer, merchandiser and store manager in Atlanta, Georgia, Baltimore, Maryland, Little Rock, Arkansas, Longview, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. Her job took her across country and to many other countries around the world. Janice most enjoyed the people and cultures in the Far East. She had a knack for communicating despite language barriers. Since retiring, Janice has enjoyed many activities including the Mother's Club, Parkers Sunday school class, several book clubs, and ladies lunch groups. She enjoyed singing in choirs with the Sweet Adelines and most recently the Willow Lake Singers. Janice will always be remembered for her lifelong love of gardening and growing flowers. Janice is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Harold Bryan. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Vining; sisters, Bonnie Self and Jean Cox; brothers, John Bryan and Skipper Bryan and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating Janice's life will be scheduled at a later date after the threat of COVID- 19 has passed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Janice's name to First United Methodist Church of Bossier, Helping Hands Ministry at 201 John Wesley Blvd, Bossier City, Louisiana 71112.
