Jena Mannies

Funeral services honoring the life of Jena Lee Mannies will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at First United Methodist Church in Mansfield, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Rev. Bill McLain and Rev. Dean Register. A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, Louisiana. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Jena Lee Mannies was born in Homer Louisiana in 1950 to Robert Nash Lee and Letha Mary Moore Lee. Her family later moved back to their forever home in Logansport, Louisiana. Jena graduated from Logansport High School, where she was a majorette, homecoming queen, and FFA Sweetheart. She attended Panola College. Jena joined the DeSoto Parish Clerks Office as a deputy clerk in 1976. After spending over 33 years at the Clerk of Court's Office, she was later sworn in and served as Chief Deputy Clerk of Court and held that title until her retirement. She later returned to the office for another couple years after the request of newly elected, family friend, Jeremy Evans- then retired yet again. She enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, and later in life road trips and exploring with her son Hunter. For most of her life, she was an avid (and quite accomplished hunter) and enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing with her late husband. She always loved Mardi Gras and was very involved in her Krewe here in DeSoto Parish, the Krewe of Demeter. She loved the events; she loved the community service the fun and the bringing joy to others in the parish. Her favorite was Mardi Gras parades and when the Krewe would visit the local nursing homes. She spent several years in retirement as the fill-in secretary of her church, First United Methodist Church here in Mansfield. If she wasn't out with her Mardi Gras Krewe at some event or fundraiser, or she wasn't home working in the yard or playing her computer games, well you could probably find her on a cruise ship with her brother and sister-in-law. She loved her family, her friends, and being involved in anything locally that would help others or her community. She adored her parish, and even though spending her life in Mansfield, always commented that living on the farm was living on "this side of Mansfield" which meant she was that much closer to Logansport, which always held a special place in her heart. She spent the last 15 years of her life being the head of her family, the leader of her family, and its rock. She was close to her children, adorable grandchildren, and her brother and sister-in-law. Not just close, but literally across the street. You didn't get down the driveway (in or out) too often without getting a call from Jena, who also went by momma, mom, Mimi), "where ya going?? Are you going to get food? Going to the dump?" She was a leader, a friend, a counselor, a parent, a grandparent, and a blessing (sometimes a sassy one but always a blessing). She went to join her husband Benny Roger Mannies in the arms of her Lord, on October 18th, 2020. Fifteen years of catching up and we all know he is getting a huge smile and most likely an ear full. Jena was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Nash Lee and Letha Mary Moore Lee, and one brother, Gary Lee. She is survived by her children, Hunter Lee Mannies and Mary Beth Mannies Allen and husband Brad Allen; two grandchildren she adored, Benny Cash Allen (after his Poppa Benny) and the one and only, Annabelle Presley Allen; her brother, Robert S. Lee (Bob) and wife Beverly (her sister-in-law and best friend) a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends across the parish, the state, and the country. Honoring Jena as pallbearers will be Reily Hall, Jeffery Sholmire, Jeremy Evans, Alan Bounds, Dean Register, Randy Bounds, and Steve Adcock. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Stephens and O. L. (Sonny) Stone Jr. In lieu of flowers, the below were what seemed to mean the most to her: First United Methodists Church Mansfield St. Jude's Memphis Louisiana Lions Camp The Alzheimer's Association The Krewe of Demeter Inc.
