She will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Cemetery in De Berry, Texas. Visitation will be held prior to service at 10:00 a.m. Officiating the service will be Reverend John Hawkins. JoAnn Griffin Beatty was born on April 14, 1938 in Stratton, Mississippi to her parents John Lee Griffin and Alene Hunter Griffin. She passed from this earthly home on August 14, 2020. Affectionately known "Nonnie" to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many others, she lived life actively until her health declined over the last few years. JoAnn graduated from Tuscaloosa High School, where she was an all-state flutist. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Lee Beatty, on June 1, 1956. They moved to Germany during his time in the service, and returned to the states to live in Jacksonville, Alabama. Eventually careers brought them to Louisiana where they raised their family in Pineville and later Shreveport. She always called Alabama "home" and her passion for Alabama football was quite evident throughout her life. She loved to greet anyone with a "Roll Tide". JoAnn enjoyed traveling, fishing at Toledo Bend, and sharing a cup of coffee with friends. She was a member of Clearview Church and loved her church family. Most recently she enjoyed coloring and writing the Bible in longhand. When asked what she learned from her years of writing the Bible, her response was BE KIND. JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lee Beatty and her parents. Survived by her daughter, LeAnn Beatty Nethery of Panama City Beach, Florida, her sons, Lynn Thomas Beatty and wife, Rhonda, of Bethany, Louisiana, and John Lance Beatty of Shreveport, Louisiana. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Hannah Brea Beatty of Shreveport, Haley Nethery Aldridge (David), of Gainesville, Georgia, Lucas Coy Beatty (Stephanie) of Bethany, Louisiana, Zachary Thomas Nethery of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Sarah Beatty Johnson (Brad) of Bossier City, Louisiana, and Hunter Kemp Beatty of Shreveport. She was recently blessed with three precious great granddaughters whom she adored: Ann Morgan Aldridge, Caroline Palmer Aldridge and Abigail Lee Johnson. As an only child, she found friends that became like sisters whom she cherished: Betty Holder, Bess Brumble, Laverne Broussard, and Veronica "Angel" Jefferson. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Honoring JoAnn as pallbearers will be Dennis Sullivan, Lucas Beatty, Zachary Nethery, Hunter Beatty, David Aldridge and Brad Johnson. Memorials may be made to Clearview Church (clearviewshreveport.org/Beatty) or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (pulmonaryfibrosis.org).
