John Greer

Arcadia - Some people light up a room with their presence; they cast a spell with their charm; they leave a quiet emptiness in a room upon their departure. John Wesley Greer was one of these people. He entered this world in Longview, Texas, on March 12, 1933, the only son born to Marvin Wesley Greer and Pallie Milligan Greer and departed his earthly existence on May 29, 2018, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Besides being the pride and joy of his parents, John was the "spoiled rotten" little brother to adoring sisters, Vina (Henry) and Lucile (Mask). As a child and teenager, John Greer had the good fortune to live in several states: Texas, Arkansas, Georgia and Louisiana. High school years found John in Springhill, Louisiana, playing tackle on the high school football team and whit an eye toward serving his country and a college degree. The United State Navy fulfilled part of that dream, drawing him to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands, where he proudly served his country, with the added benefit of learning to dance the hula, much to the delight of his adoring nieces. Following service to his country, John enrolled in Louisiana Tech University, where he obtained a degree in Business Administration in May of 1961. He continued his graduate studies at Louisiana Tech, then launched a life-long career in marketing. John was a founding member of the American Legion Fred A. Rogers Post 388 at Haughton, Louisiana, and was devoted to his fellow legionnaires. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; his sisters, Irene Greer Fuqua, Vina Greer Henry, and Lucile Greer Mask; his wife, Sonja "Sam" Thomas Greer; his step-mother, Ida Bell Greer; and numerous step-brothers and step-sisters. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Geraldine "Geri" Myers Greer; step-daughters, Melissa Hicks and life partner, Mark; Geri Hackler, Sherry Tierney, and husband Terry; Annette Davies and husband Todd, 10 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018, with visitation at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia at 9:00 a.m., followed by graveside services led by Chaplain Bill Stroud at Hurricane Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Hurricane Cemetery in Arcadia, Louisiana, alongside his parents and sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project. John Wesley Greer leaves a legacy of an unmatched giggle, twinkling blue eyes, and a mischievousness that leaves all who loved him wishing for more....
