Funeral services for the Honorable John "Johnny" Clinton McFerren, 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Brookwood Baptist Church with Rev. John Harp and Rev. David Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Johnny, born October 29, 1933 in Marthaville, LA to John Clinton and Mae Donaho McFerren, went home to be with his Lord on August 1, 2018. He was a Shreveport businessman and a Democratic former State Representative for Caddo and DeSoto Parishes in Northwestern Louisiana. Mr. McFerren received a Master of Science Degree in Education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. Originally a classroom teacher, he then served for twelve years on the elected Caddo Parish School Board and served as President. From 1980 to 1996, he represented State House District 7 for four terms and was the Chairman of the House Education Committee from 1992 to 1996. Johnny was the owner of McFerren Real Estate for 60 years. He was the founder and owner of Johnny\'s Catfish and Seafood at 5130 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in Shreveport. He was the President of the Belle Maison Neighborhood Association in Shreveport. He was also a founding member and deacon for over 50 years at Brookwood Baptist Church. In 2017, Governor John Bel Edwards appointed Mr. McFerren to the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System. Johnny was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patsy Moss McFerren, and brothers Wayne and Norman McFerren. Left behind to cherish many memories are his daughter, Karen Beth McFerren; son, Scott McFerren and wife Lori; grandsons, Justin Penn and wife Heather, Clint McFerren and wife Lauren, Beau McFerren and wife Gabby; great-grandchildren, Cora, Michael Reid, and John-Hardin Penn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Honoring Johnny as pallbearers will be Jackie Birdwell, Jeremy Evans, Tim Leger, Beau McFerren, Clint McFerren, Jeff McFerren, Michael McFerren, David Parish, and Justin Penn. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his former colleagues from the Louisiana State Legislature. The family suggests memorials be made to Brookwood Baptist Church, 9014 Brookwood Church Way, Shreveport, LA 71106.
