Officiating the service will be Pastor Gilbert Metcalf. Interment will immediately follow the service in Walnut Hill St. Mary Baptist Church Cemetery. Johnnie Combs was born December 1, 1936 and departed this life on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 4:25 p.m. at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Johnnie was born in Bienville Parish to Ariella Combs Boston and Dan Boston. At an early age Johnnie moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to live with his very special Aunt Bertha Combs Dooley and Uncle Coleman Combs and attend school. He then began his almost 60-year career at Rose-Neath Funeral Homes taking on a variety of duties, becoming a mentor and setting the standard for those who came after him. Of course, Johnnie never truly retired, he continued to be a comforting presence when he would come by to visit and attend company events. Johnnie had a smile, kind word, and many times, words of wisdom for all he knew and met. Johnnie was gifted with a voice straight from heaven and his Ministry of Song is known throughout the churches of Shreveport, Bossier and beyond. Singing praises to God was not only his hobby, but his passion. Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Syderia Cockerham Combs, special aunt, Bertha Dooley, "Aunt Sis" as Johnnie called her; uncle, Coleman Combs; sister, Judy Combs; and brother, Wes Combs. Left to cherish his memory are his son, David Combs of Shreveport, LA; siblings, Ollie Brice and husband, Lonnie of Bienville, LA, Gladys Oliver of Little Rock, AR, Dan Foster, Jr. of Camden, AR, Robert Foster and wife, Rosemary of Chidester, AR, and Johnnie Lee Boston and wife, Flora of Camden, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Honoring Johnnie as pallbearers will be his Rose-Neath and St. Mary families. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Combs, Earlie Washington, Willie James Dooley, Ronald Washington, Dan Foster, Jr., and Johnnie Lee Boston. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Christus Highland Medical Center Emergency Room doctors and nurses, Dr. Stephen Maxwell and the Med/Surg nurses and staff on the 3rd floor. They would also like to extend a very special thank you to his Rose-Neath family for their love and care in life and in death. Out of an abundance of caution due to COVID-19, prepared plates will be passed out after the services in the church dining hall for the repast. The family suggests memorials may be made to Walnut Hill St. Mary Baptist Church, 9235 Woolworth Road, Shreveport, LA 71129.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
