June Miller

SHREVEPORT, LA - Born on July 20, 1944, to June Cowan Anderson and Paul Anderson, June Anderson Miller beloved mother, dearest of sisters, adored grandmother and great-grandmother, treasured aunt and steadfast friend to so many, traded in her earthly angel wings for her heavenly ones on May 10, 2018 after a prolonged and valiant fight against cancer. June was preceded in death by her husband, Roland W. Miller, her parents and her niece Sara-Catherine Shirley. Left to cherish her beautiful memories are children, Jennifer Miller Lewis and her husband Ernest, Chip Miller, Matthew Miller and his wife Gena all of Shreveport and Sara Miller Vidler and her husband Gene, of Mandeville, LA; sisters, Jeanie Anderson Shirley and her husband Bill and Jane (Joy) Anderson Ziehl and her husband Bob; survive June as well as grandchildren Tasha, Bubba and Bradley Lewis, Molly and Mason Vidler, Anderson and Abbott Miller, sons of Matthew and Gena; and great-grandchild, Ava Mandigo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins will also miss the love that she shared so totally, freely and affectionately. Among her endearing traits were kindness, generosity, strength, loyalty, optimism, compassion, fearlessness, reliability and a heart that was always supportive and easygoing. Above all, June will be remembered for her love of Jesus which permeated everything she did as she served family, friends and those in need. June was graduated from C.E. Byrd High school in 1962, received an Associates of Arts Degree from Christian College in Columbia, MO in 1964 and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Centenary College of Louisiana in 1966. While at Centenary she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity and was extremely active as an alumni, serving as alumni treasurer and House Corporation "forever!" Besides her children, closest to her heart was Jesus whom she served faithfully and with great love. Through her service and membership with First United Methodist Church she contributed her talents by cooking meals for Grace Home, knitting shawls for the Prayer Shawl ministry, being a confirmand mentor and working with the Women\'s Ministry Team and the Senior Adult group. She took Romans 12:11-12 to heart! Her favorite "role" was that of mother. While her children were school age she kept busy as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and treasurer of the Captain Shreve PTA for 14 years. Once they "flew the nest" she was too energetic to stay at home so began working outside the home. Her last job was that of Financial Coordinator for the First Judicial District Court she retired in 2013. June loved to travel whether by car, airplane, train or cruise ship. She traveled the U.S., Canada and Europe and in 2004 participated in, and finished, the Dublin Marathon! She constantly surprised us all with her adventures and talents we never knew she had! And although she said her friends wouldn\'t let her sing in the church choir, one of her great joys was when she sang in the choir at a Billy Graham Crusade! Our darling June, who many lovingly called Baba, what will we do without your ready smile and the palpable love you always showered on us? You blessed our lives in ways too numerous to mention. You were a loving "light" in the world and a "rock" we all leaned on. You showed us love and taught us courage by your example and you will live in our hearts forever. We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the loving and constantly caring staff of Live Oak, North Pavilion, and the many relatives and friends who have been such a blessing in June's life. A Memorial Service will be held in the Sanctuary at First United Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA, at 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2018, with Rev. Dr. Carl Rhoads officiating. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Eternal Flame, PO Box 1567, Shreveport, LA 71165.
