Kate Brown Lafield, 89, of Coushatta, LA passed away at her home on Sept. 15, 2016, three days before her 90th birthday, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Coushatta on September 18, 1926. She was preceded in death by her parents, B. L. "Bide" and Annie Lee Brown. Six siblings also preceded her in death, Christine Prince, Trant Caldwell, Jack Brown, Kirwen Brown, Truett Brown, and Joe Basil Brown. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Harry D. "Jack" Lafield of Coushatta and four children, Joseph Henry "Jodie" Lafield and wife Linda of Baton Rouge, Harry Lane Lafield of Wichita, KS, Trudy Lynn Hadley and fiancé Jimmy Abboud of Lake Charles, LA, and Byron Lafield and wife Linda of Shreveport. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Season Wedman and husband Mark of Wichita, KS, Abi Lafield of Wichita, Sarah Young and husband Blake of Shreveport, Matthew Lafield and wife Kelli of Carville, LA, and David and Ryan Rough of Shreveport, and three great grandchildren, Jillian and Cody Jackson of Wichita and Amelia Blake Young of Shreveport. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She attended schools in Coushatta and was a member of First Baptist Church, Coushatta. She liked to describe herself as "Jack Lafield's wife". Kate and Jack were married on June 26, 1943, in Bossier City. She was a homemaker and active in various community organizations. One of her service activities was always helping to sew costumes for the annual Coushatta Lions Club minstrel. She also enjoyed supporting the Riverdale Rebels. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening September 18 from 5 - 8 pm in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church, Coushatta. Services under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home will be held on Monday, September 19, at 2 pm in the sanctuary at First Baptist. Dr. Nathan Davis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Springville Cemetery in Coushatta. Pallbearers will be Nettles Brown, John Kirwen Brown, Truett Brown, Hunter Brown, William Brown, and Buddy Prince. Memorials may be sent to the organization of the donor's choice.
