Larry Lawrence

Visitation and memorial services celebrating the life of Larry Charles Lawrence are planned for 3:00 pm, Friday, January 31, 2020 at Rose-Neath Southside. He passed away on January 24, 2020 after a lengthy illness. Larry was born December 20, 1948 in New Orleans, LA to Arthur and Addie Lawrence. He spent his childhood living between Chicago, IL and Shreveport, LA. After graduating from C.E. Byrd High School in 1967, he attended LA Tech in pursuit of an art degree. After a few months there, he enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the 5th US Army, during Vietnam. His first marriage to his high school sweetheart, Margaret Herrin, produced his proudest accomplishments, his two sons, Phillip Aaron and Christopher Harold. He spent many weekends following the dirt bike circuit with them in the early 1980s and reveled in their glory. He also helped raise and care for Jonathon Field with his second wife, Diane Lawrence, until Jonathon's death. He loved cars and the people who drove them. He owned several auto repair businesses in the Shreveport area, including Harold's Auto Repair, with his step-father, Harold Fortenberry, who was the father to Larry that he didn't have to be. Larry also had successful careers at Mansfield Auto World and Red River Chevrolet before his retirement. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Lawrence, mother Addie Fortenberry, step-father Harold Fortenberry, and sisters Tommy Jean Garner and Jeanie Deal. He is survived by his sons Phillip (wife Melinda), Chris (wife Missy), grandchildren Aaron (wife Chelsea), Blake and Caroline Lawrence, of DeSoto Parish; sister Linda Grace Six of Chicago, IL, and his best friend Puddin\' Pie. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Christian Hollis, Dean Graham, Tamela Fish of Metropolitan Circles, Bonnie Sherman of Always Best Care and Tricia Williams of Regional Hospice for all of the care and patience offered during this difficult time. He cherished each of you. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. If you don't have a preference, please consider the American Lung Association at action.lung.org.
