Lida Mosley Green was born on May 7, 1936, in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, at the home of her parents, Ether and Charley Mosley, Jr. One of her last spoken wishes was to die there, with dignity and in peaceful serenity, on the acres first purchased by her paternal grandparents, Lizzie and Charles Mosley, Sr.
Nicknamed "Dolly" for her incredible agility on the basketball court, the point guard played for Second Ward High School, in Gloster, Louisiana. After high school, Lida Mosley, a striking young woman, moved to Houston, where she met her future husband, Roy Green, Jr., also a native of Louisiana. They wed in June 1958.
As a young woman in Fifth Ward Houston, Lida was baptized at the Trinity Gardens Church of Christ, before relocating to Shreveport, Louisiana. There, her blossoming family attended Perrin Street, which later became Russell Road Church of Christ. She was a faithful member for six decades. Her favorite scripture was the church's motto, Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
While in Shreveport, Lida earned her GED and a nursing certificate. But her favorite career was that of loving mother to her children, Kittie, Joyce, and Calvin. A fourth child, her beloved son, Dwight, was legally adopted by her parents and raised on the farm in Gloster. Lida delighted in all four of her precious babies, teaching them to know God, work hard, and to discover their true missions in life.
In 2010, Lida retired from Caddo Parish Schools and her favorite library on Pines Road. Her hobbies included reading, travel, writing poetry, and making teacakes for anyone who wanted them. Not a day passed that close friends and total strangers did not comment on her million-dollar smile and beautiful spirit. And now, God has called His amazing "Teacake Queen" home for her eternal rest, which she has earned without complaint.
Lida leaves to cherish her memory: Dwight Mosley, her dutiful son and longtime caregiver; Joyce King Richardson, her devoted daughter; and Calvin (Adrian) Green, her youngest. Lida leaves a priceless legacy to her four grandsons, Delvin Mosley, Kevin Mosley Wiley, Roderick Richardson, II, and Brandon Richardson, two granddaughters-in-law, Kemah and Tashia, and her nine great-grandchildren: Courtney, Kendall, Dacianna, Dreyea, Delvin Jerome, Audrey, Roderick, Kelvin James, and Karsyn Olivia.
Lida Mosley Green is preceded in death by her daughter, Kit, who died in 2019, as well as her parents and several siblings, including David Mosley, her oldest brother. Lida was one of the 13 children of Ether and Charley Mosley, Jr. She was proud of her heritage and lived by the integrity, honor, and strength of character they instilled.
A private graveside service honoring the life of Lida was held Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City, Louisiana. Dr. John H. Dansby, Senior Minister at Russell Road Church of Christ officiated the service.
The family would like to thank everyone for their sincere condolences, prayers, and calls. In the time of COVID, we understand that not everyone can pay in-person final respects. We ask, if you are able, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or to the victims of Louisiana hurricanes. May God bless you all.
