SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Lillie McKinney Mitchell, will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday August 4, 2018, at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel on Marshall Street. Visitation will be during the hour immediately preceding the service. The Rev. Mimi McDowell of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church will be officiating. Interment will be at Forest Park Cemetery. Lillie Mitchell died July 31, 2018, after a brief illness. She was born in Hosston, Louisiana on January 15, 1922, the youngest child of the late Hugh Clifford McKinney and Clara Lawton McKinney. Lillie or "Lil" was a resident of Shreveport for 45 years. She was a descendant of one of North Louisiana\'s pioneer families and returned to Louisiana along with her husband upon his retirement following thirty-five years of distinguished service with the United States Air Force. She was a member of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She actively participated in patriotic and cultural organizations, having served as president of Susan Constant Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Thelian Literary Club, and North Highlands Book Club. Lillie was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband of fifty years, Brigadier General William L. Mitchell, Jr., brother Ralph McKinney and wife Lorraine of Hosston, brother Hugh Ben McKinney and wife Freda of Hosston, sister Roma Martin and husband Virgil of Hosston, and sister Clifford Lee and husband James of Shreveport. Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons William L. Mitchell, III and his wife, June of Yaak, Montana, and Terrill Hugh Mitchell of Shreveport, Louisiana. Grandchildren include Lee Holly Bailey and husband Trey of Greenbrier, Arkansas, William L. Mitchell, IV of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Cary Mitchell Almater and husband Bader of Kuwait City, Kuwait. She was also blessed with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Richard Michael, Nurse Sheila Matthewes, and caregiver Dee White for their special care and devotion to Lillie. The family suggests that memorials be made to Noel Memorial United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor\'s choice.
