Marceil Frazier

Marceil Newsom Frazier was born on June 8, 1925 outside Kelly, Louisiana and went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents: John Hence M. Newsom and Cora Starnes Newsom, her loving husband, Charlie Glenn Frazier, Sr. and sisters, Pauline Newsom and Annie Lea Newsom Elenburg. She is survived by her 5 children: Charlie Glenn Frazier, Jr. and wife Connie, Ronald Frazier and wife Donna, Barbra Taylor and husband Kenny, Champ Frazier and wife Ruth, John Frazier and wife Jennifer, 10 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren. She also leaves a sister Betty Ray Newsom Elenburg and brother Jimmy M. Newsom. Services will Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel, Shreveport, LA.   Marceil Newsom Frazier: to all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was Ma. She was never one for making milk and cookies or snuggling, but she would cheer you on no matter what and she loved watching you have fun. She wanted you just close enough so she could hear you-unless you were a baby. No baby could make it into a room without Ma snatching them up to hold them. As a result she kept children out of her house for over 25 years. Her grandkids adored her, and she was proud of all of them. Many an unripe fig war happened in Ma's backyard, until she fussed from the backdoor for the kids to stop messing with her figs and get out of that tree. Ma was active well into her eighties-her love for children and her desire to love on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sitting Indian style in her recliner, she greeted her family cheerfully when they came to stay. And every holiday-Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas-was spent at her house. From over-eating to exchanging gifts to Easter egg hunts, Ma hosted everything. She loved it-the squeals of joy from the great grandkids, the babies, seeing her family. She loved the life it brought to her home. Ma's childhood was spent in the height of the Depression, and she lived through a major world war. She married Charlie Glenn Frazier-Pa-when he returned from the war, and they started a life together. They moved around a few times finally settling in Shreveport. Ma was a wonderful woman who lived through extraordinary circumstances, surviving a world war and the Depression. She was an ordinary woman who married an ordinary man, but had an extraordinary life. Her love for gardening, bright colors, children, and her family pushed her through her life. She stood tall and tough, just like the purple crepe myrtle in her front yard. Ma will be missed by all of her family, and she'll live in their memories-making the best beef stew, fruit preserves, sewing dresses for her grandkids, fighting squirrels in her back yard, and rocking in her recliner.
