Marcellene Everett

A Celebration of Life in memory of Marcy Everett will begin with a visitation at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019 immediately followed by a service at 3:00 p.m., at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Dr. Pat Day of First United Methodist Church. Private family graveside services will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent.   The youngest of five children, Marcy was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on August 9, 1933 to Savannah Marlar and Harry Elmer Geeham. The family moved to Michigan and later to Dallas, Texas where Marcy graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. While working at Sun Oil Company, Marcy met Jack T. Everett, a handsome oil and gas scout. They were married in 1963 and together they built a life as big as their dreams. For 49 years, until his death in 2012, she was his anchor, biggest fan, and a second mother to his two daughters.   A talented artist, Marcy could, and would, make anything she touched look beautiful. Her skill and pride of artistry was evident in all she did, as was her willingness to help better her community. Although she served as a volunteer for the Shreveport Opera Guild and the American Heart Association, Marcy is best known for her contributions to the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC).   For over 30 years, Marcy worked alongside many talented Shreveporters on SRAC projects, especially "Christmas in the Sky". Her beautiful smile, creativity, and good humor lifted many hearts and made long work days more fun. Fellow SRAC Board Members and co-workers affectionately nicknamed her the "Glitter Queen".   When Louisiana Downs opened in 1974, Marcy and Jack dove into the world of thoroughbred horse racing, both in Louisiana and Kentucky, and the Everetts became a familiar couple in the Winner\'s Circle.   Marcy was a consummate shopper and stylish dresser. She could also handle dirt bikes, Lake Bistineau, cattle auctions, willful toddlers and teenagers like a pro. Her enjoyment of travel was surpassed only by her love of family, especially "her girls" and grandchildren.   The last ten years of Marcy's life brought hard challenges as she fought the isolation and devastation brought about by Primary Progressive Anomic Aphasia and dementia. Her undying spirit, tenacity and faith grew stronger as each word disappeared. Although language, mobility and motor skills were lost, she remembered each family member and friend until the day of her death.   The family wishes to thank Minnie Palms, Carrie Adger, Jannica Anderson and the staff of the Chateaus at Montclair Park for providing compassion without end. Patsy Grant, the only woman who loves shopping as much as Marcy did, was God's gift to our entire family, especially Marcy. Our heartfelt thanks to Greg Williams and Carol McCollister and to all those who loved and included Marcy, even when her voice was silenced and clarity disappeared.   Marcy was predeceased by her mother & father, brother Theodore (Ted) Geeham of Florida, sister, Mary Lauten, and husband, Hank; sister, Joyce Reid and husband Jim, all of Dallas, Texas; and her beloved husband, Jack Thomas Everett.   She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Lauten and husband Fred of Plano, Texas; "her girls\", Terri Everett West and husband Gary and Sharon Everett McGivney and husband Ken; five grandchildren: Meredith Hamrick and fiancé J.R. Craig, Jordan Hamrick Cason and husband Matt, Joseph Hamrick and wife Savannah, Nathan Everett West, and Spencer Everett West. She also leaves behind four great grandsons (with more expected in the near future), and her beloved nieces and nephews and their families, Linda Reid Medlen and husband Norman, Steve Lauten and wife Janice, Elizabeth Lauten Ratliff and husband Alan, all of Plano, TX, Michael Lauten of Dallas, Suzan Lauten Garson and husband Tim of Houston, TX, Rev. David Lauten and wife Anne of Columbia, SC, Sheila Jack and husband Ron and "Little" Marcy (Mrs. Brand McCarley), her first great-niece and namesake of Friscoe, TX, and Ted's children in Michigan and Nevada.   Honoring Marcy as pallbearers will be her grandsons, grandson-in-law, great grandson - Archer Everett Cason and dear friend Greg Williams.   The family suggests memorials may be made to ArtBreak, Shreveport Regional Arts Council, 801 Crockett Street, Shreveport, LA 71101 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
