Margaret A. Head

Margaret Addington Head passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Margaret was 81 years old. Margaret was born on August 8, 1939 to Asa Melvin Addington and Mary Shouse Addington in Shreveport, Louisiana. Margaret lived all her life in Shreveport until the move to Knoxville in 2017 to be near family. Margaret graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport where she was a part of the drum core. After a blind date and a whirlwind romance, Margaret married Everett Ray Head on October 21, 1960. They had been married almost 58 years, when Ray passed away in 2018. They had two children, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Margaret welcomed any and all into her home. From her children's friends and extended family to her church family and new acquaintances, Margaret exemplified hospitality and always made others feel comfortable. With her quick wit and outgoing personality, Margaret was always the life of every party. She loved to dance and it was not uncommon to find Margaret and Ray "cutting a rug" on the kitchen floor. She loved to sing - at church, in the car, in the bathroom - and particularly enjoyed the years she was part of the Shreveport-Bossier Choral Ensemble. For several years, she also used her musical talent as pianist at Oakcrest Christian Church where she was one of the church's founding members. Margaret had many hobbies and pursued them all with passion. She was a voracious reader and lost many nights' sleep finishing the current page-turner. Margaret loved sports and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, the Chicago Cubs, and of course, the Dallas Cowboys. She was obsessed with shoes and lost track of just how many pairs she owned. Margaret loved to cross-stich and created dozens of beautiful pieces. Margaret and her friend Tommie Cain even turned this hobby into a business, together opening and operating "Needle's Eye" in Shreveport. At the time of her death, Margaret was a member of Countryside Christian Church in Shreveport. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Everett Ray Head, parents, Melvin and Mary Addington, her sister Tommie Longfellow of Greenville, MS, her brother David Addington of Zachary, LA, and her sister Carolyn Clearman of Texarkana. She is survived by her son Gary Ray Head and his wife Cindy of Knoxville, Tennessee; daughter Kathy Howard and her husband Wayne of Ponder, Texas; grandchildren Kelley Irwin and her husband Jeremy, Sarah Raney and her husband Logan, Jonathan Head and his wife Brittany, Mark Howard and his wife Ashley, and Kelsey Laspina and her husband Vinnie; and great-grandchildren Micah Irwin, Theo Irwin, Josiah Raney, Ella Raney, and Everett Howard. Visitation will be held Friday, November 6 from 5-8 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home at 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport, Louisiana. Graveside service will be held Saturday, November 7 at 10 am at Forest Park Cemetery West, 4000 Meriwether Road, Shreveport.
