A graveside service for Marjorie McCollum Powell, 97, will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery, 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Pastor John Harp of Brookwood Baptist Church.
Marjorie was born on October 22, 1923 to Bert Braxton McCollum and Bessie George Wilson McCollum in Grannis, Arkansas and passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 in Shreveport.
Marjorie was a resident of Shreveport and worked as a realtor before retiring. She grew up on a farm and spent her childhood riding horses and playing basketball in school. She graduated from Gilliam High School in 1940 and married David K. Powell on March 29, 1944 in Piggot, Arkansas. She sold real estate for 20+ years. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of the Newcomers Club for many years. She had a talent for making the most incredible pies! She was a faithful member of Brookwood Baptist Church since 1973. Our beloved mother and nana loved her family with all her heart and will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David K. Powell; parents; brother, Dale McCollum; and great-granddaughter, Sarah Smiley. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Jeanne Bailey and Andrea Harrison and husband, Tomme; four grandchildren, Tina Smiley and husband, Henry, Heather Johnson, Meredith Harrison and Morgan Harrison; six great-grandchildren, Savannah Smiley, Addison Smiley, Ethan Corey, Cameron Johnson, Annabelle Johnson and Ben Johnson.
Honoring Marjorie as pallbearers will be Henry Smiley, Ethan Corey, Cameron Johnson, Tomme Harrison, Jon Johnson and John Harp.
