SHREVEPORT, LA - A Graveside Service for Marjorie Newsom Vaughn, 84, will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Minden, LA following a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Minden Funeral Home, Minden, LA. Officiating will be Rev. John M. Korlaske, of Ellerbe Road Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA.
Margie was born December 4, 1933, in Minden, LA to Pauline Cox Newsom and Thomas Newsom and passed away August 18, 2018, in Shreveport, LA. She retired as a Special Education Teachers Aid June 1, 1995 from E. Baton Rouge School System. She moved back to Northwest Louisiana in 1995. Margie was a member of Ellerbe Road Methodist Church. She was known as Margie, Mammaw, and Sister by her family. She loved her family, dogs, and flowers. She had a green thumb and could grow anything.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Freddie Davis, granddaughter, Rachel Nicole Despino, sister, Myrtle L. Newsom, and special niece, Linda Jo Leonard. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 38 years Tom Vaughn of Shreveport, LA; son, Franky Thomas Despino of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Stacey Vaughn Durr and husband Donny of Shreveport, LA; daughter-in-law, Georgia Davis of Crocker, MO; sisters, Mary Miller of Minden, LA, Melba Bair of Denton, TX, Barbara Nicholson of Jackson, MS, Frances Simpson and husband Dick of Ponder, TX, Betty Davis and husband Terry of Minden, LA, Tommie Brewster of Minden, LA, and Bonnie Langwasser and husband Robert of Ringgold, LA; grandchildren, Richelle Dehant, Richard Paul Davis, Tammie Shattuck and husband John, Melissa Le Haman and husband Thomas, Franky Despino, Jr., Andrew Despino, Rebecca Durr, Stephanie Durr and Jeremy Durr; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to "her sister from another mother," Chris Washington for her special friendship and care.
Honoring Marjorie as pallbearers will be Franky Despino, Jr., Franky Despino, Sr., Donny Durr, Phillip Gurgainers, Matthew Hortman and Joshua Peters.
