Mary Frances Ford

A graveside service for Mary Frances Collier Ford will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pioneer, Louisiana at 2:00 p.m. Mary Frances Collier Ford graced us with her visit on Earth on January 30, 1943, the second of 3 girls from parents Cason Eugene Collier and Iler Lee O'Mary Collier (both deceased). Mary and her two sisters, Janette Collier Hart (deceased) and baby sister Rebecca Jane Hickman grew up enjoying country life at Granny's farm surrounded by their Grandmother Katie (deceased) two uncles, Floyd and Richard (both deceased), and Aunt Ludale (deceased). Summer days were spent playing in the fields, helping work the farm and watching the grown folk play music and sing on Granny's front poach where members of the close-knit community like to gather for dinner and visiting. When Mary was just 18, she went to work for Bell South (the local telephone company) in Bastrop, LA as a telephone operator. There she met her soon-to-be sister-in-law, Linda. Linda introduced Mary to her brother, Gary. After a first date, Gary shipped off to sea to continue his term with the United States Navy. She and Gary enjoyed getting to know each other through writing letters back and forth for over a year. When Gary got out of the Navy the first place he went was to see Mary in Lake Providence, LA where she had moved after the death of her mother to help take care of her younger sister Rebecca Jane (Polly). Gary soon proposed and Mary accepted telling Gary, "Well, a husband is supposed to provide the house". Gary went out and bought her a house at 706 East Hickory in Bastrop, LA. Mary and Gary were married on August 9, 1963 in a parsonage in Lake Providence, LA surrounded by family members. For the next 55 years Mary and Gary celebrated life with the birth of two children, Zackery Joan Ford Tawwatters, born in May 1964, and Loyd Gary Ford, Jr., born in July 1965, their children's marriages and the birth of their grandchildren as well as a few pets along the way. They lived in several states including Louisiana, Mississippi, California, Georgia and finally retired in Temple, Texas. Mary spent her entire adult life nurturing and loving her family. She was called to help others as well finding vocation in working with the elderly as a Certified Nurses Aid. Most of Mary's co-workers described her as "an angel on earth". Mary left us to cherish many memories on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the age of 76. If there were one statement to sum up Mary it would be to "go in rows". Mary was matter-of-fact and going in rows ensures that you take care of everything in order and don't miss anything, no matter how big or small and never complain about the results.
