Mary Lasseigne Martin, 63, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 290 Idema Street, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, followed by a graveside service at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clarke Road, Keithville, Louisiana at 1:00 p.m.


A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Mary was born on September 11, 1955. Her parents were the late John Lasseigne and the late Shirley Durr Lasseigne.


Mary graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School and Captain Shreve High School. A lifelong lover of books, Mary earned her Master of Library Science from Louisiana State University, having graduated magna cum laude. She was a member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Through her position as Reference/Information Services Librarian at Shreve Memorial Library, Mary was able to fulfill her passion of helping others improve their lives by reading and learning.


Mary loved all arts and crafts, but especially liked to sew, knit, crochet, and do all types of needlework. She enjoyed cooking and reading with her grandchildren.


Preceding her in death was her husband, Thomas H. Martin, who passed away on July 23, 2019 and her sister, Shirley Lasseigne Fry and brother, Michael John Lasseigne.


Survivors include her sister, Carolyn Paul and brother-in-law, Kelley Weldin; sister, Cindy Houston and brother-in-law, Chuck Houston; stepdaughters, Michelle Robinson and Nasette Martin; step-grandson, Ronnie Randall and his wife, Candice, and children, Karmyn and Nevaeh; step-granddaughters, Aleathia Martin, Jaimie Erin Powell, and Lauren Estep; step-grandson, Robert Estep; a host of step-great-grandchildren and special friends Jerry and Audrey Brown.
