Shreveport, LA - Mary Bernice Murphey Raye age 93, passed away peacefully in her home on May 5, 2020 in Shreveport, Louisiana after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Raye was born on April 29, 1927 in Heflin, Louisiana. She was the youngest of 9 siblings. After graduating from High School, she followed her dreams and moved to Shreveport to attend "Meadows Draughon Business College" and graduated from there in 1946. Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life "Jimmy" and they celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage. They were long standing members of the Joy Class at Mangum Memorial United Methodist Church in Shreveport. Mary was an accomplished painter, a garden enthusiast, loved to cook and passionate towards all creatures of nature. Her soft-spoken, gentle and loving ways touched the hearts and lives of all her family and friends. Mrs. Raye was preceded in death by her late husband, Jimmy R. Raye of Shreveport. She is survived by her two daughters, Cathey Weaver of Homer, Paula Thomas of Shreveport ; two grandchildren, Holly Nash and her husband Ragan of Sarepta and Jonathon Thomas of Shreveport; three great grandchildren, Claire Nash, Judith Nash and Aubrey Thomas. The family wishes to extend their undying gratitude and love to the angels, Kate Gibbons and Toni Reeves of Regional Hospice, who so tenderly loved and cared for her. You will forever be in our hearts and prayers. Her family will celebrate her life with a private graveside service at Centuries Memorial Park, ?8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA on May 9, 2020. Reverend McKee Williams will officiate the service. Friends may sign the guest book at Rose Neath Funeral Home Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana.
