Mary Nell Grainger Wells was born June 16, 1928, in Ranger, TX to Byron Thomas (Buck) Grainger and Bonnie Hittson Grainger. Raised in Shreveport, Mary graduated from C.E. Byrd High School, attended Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) and graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana with a degree in Education. There she met her devoted husband Clarence Wells Jr. of Mineral Wells, TX. They were married for 62 years until his death in 2011. Mary was an elementary school teacher in Mineral Wells before following Clarence\'s career to Florida and Kentucky. The family settled in Shreveport in 1971. Mary was an avid golfer, reader, and life-long student of history. She was active in First Presbyterian Church, Delta Delta Delta Sorority Alumni, and Ladies Golf Association of Shreveport Country Club. Mary was appreciative of every day and loved sharing her joy with others. She was predeceased by her husband and sister, Grace Grainger Haynes and husband Charles. She is survived by her children Byron Thomas Wells and wife Carolyn, Mary Anne Wells Butt and husband Jack; grandchildren, Marilyn Wells, Logan Wells, Mary Claire York and husband Andy, Anna Harper and husband, Andrew, Jackson Butt and fiancé Emilie; four great-grandchildren, Molly, Buck, Davis, and Anna Kate. She is also survived by a niece and nephews. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff at Savannah at the Oaks who surrounded her with loving care and compassion in her last years.
