Mayor John Charles (Chip) Dickey, Jr.

Mayor John Charles (Chip) Dickey, Jr. of Oil City, Louisiana left this earth on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 to walk the streets of gold with our Lord and Savior in Heaven. He was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma and amyloidosis, which he fought with all his strength. He passed away peacefully after spending his last few weeks with his friends and family by his side. He was born to John Charles Dickey, Sr. and Dolly Dickey on February 28, 1956. He was married to his high school sweet heart, Clella Pittman on June 6, 1975. Together they have three children, Christy, J.C., and Candace. He graduated from North Caddo High School in 1974 and then studied at Louisiana College. He later finished his Degree in Education at Louisiana Baptist University. He taught for 28 years in Caddo Parish Schools. He began his term as Mayor of Oil City in 2005. Countless lives have been forever changed because of the ministry opportunities led by "Mr. Chip". He had this incredible gift to see the God given gifts in everyone. He spent most of his life investing in students and showing them how to use their talents to serve God. Because of His love for people and his heart to tell them about God, we find peace in knowing that his legacy will live on way beyond this generation. He held many titles in his life, but the one that he was most proud of is "Papa". He loved spending time with his grandkids and was very proud of all of their accomplishments. Mackinly, Taylor Anne, Trenton, Hilary, John Charles, and Ava- may you always know how much you are loved. He is cheering you on from heaven and reminding you to "run the race with endurance." He was preceded in death by his father, John Charles Dickey Sr., his mother, Dolly Dickey. He is survived by his loving wife, Clella Dickey; sisters Charlotte Clifton, Leslie Allen; brother Tony Dickey; children Christy and David Aguillard, John Charles and Amanda Dickey III, Candace and Chase Atwood, six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath in Vivian, LA on Thursday, May 26 from 6-8pm. Funeral will be held at Ferry Lake Baptist Church, Oil City, LA on Friday, May 27 at 2pm. Interment to follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to Acadian Baptist Center in Eunice, LA or Mountain Springs Christian Youth Camp.
