The children he leaves behind are William McRae, Jana McRae, Lisa Fulp and husband, Carl; Timothy McRae and Derek McRae; as well as several grandchildren, April Shine, Fiora McRae, Nichole Politi, David Cadena, Jordan Ojeda, Gavin McRae and Evan McRae; six great-grandchildren, Holly, Jacob, Catherine and Jonathan Shine, Joey Polity and Myles Ojeda. He is also survived by his sister, Glenda McRae Coburn and husband, Venton and their children, sister-in-law Gwendolyn McRae and sister-in-law, Errol McRae and her children. Milton William McRae touched many lives with his sense of duty and generosity. His family will miss him and their hearts are filled with gratitude for the times he was there when they really needed him. Milton was a member of the Advanced ROTC at Louisiana State University and received a BS in Animal Husbandry and the College of Agriculture, LSU. Milton proudly served in the United States Air Force for 30 years. His tours of duty began at Shepherd AFB, TX, on to Thule Greenland, and then serving in both Germany and France before landing at the Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska. Next, he did a three year tour in England, (one year at the Staff College in Andover and two years with the Royal Air Force, RAF, Stafford). Upon returning from England, he served at the Defense Logistic Agency in Alexandria, VA. He then served a year in Vietnam as Chief of Supply and Commander of the Supply Squadron at Cam Rhan Bay. He returned home to Virginia to serve a four year assignment at the Pentagon. His final post was Chief of Supply of the Strategic Air Command at its headquarters in Omaha, NE. During his service, he was awarded a Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster, a Bronze Star Medal, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, an Army Commendation Medal and several other military honors that included the word "outstanding." Milton will be remembered for his sense of duty and his sense of order. We lived eight years in a house in Virginia that came with two species of grass mixed in the front and back yards. We dug them up and transplanted them back and forth so each was where it needed to be. He held reverence for the land and its products, his gardens, his relationships with moles and bugs and the tools he needed to do the deed. He loved the nutritious foods he produced. He loved his pets. But he loved most of all his sweet wife Alice, our mother, his anchor, whom he cherished and cared for in so many ways. Milton's family wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to The Glen Retirement System of Shreveport, especially the staff of the Stiles Apartments and the Magnolia House for their kindness and care. Also, thanks to Life Path Hospice for their care. In lieu of flowers to those wishing to make a memorial contribution, you may consider a donation to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the Shreveport Humane Society.
