She was born in Taftville, CT on July 19, 1933. She met her future husband, James Sidney (Jim) Prothro, Sr. while he was in submarine school in Groton, CT and they were married on December 27, 1952. When first married, they lived in Plainfield, CT, while Jim served in the Navy. There, first two sons, James Sidney Prothro, Jr. and David Charles Prothro, were born at the Navy Hospital in Groton, CT. After Jim completed his service in the Navy, they moved to Coushatta, LA. From there, they moved to Shreveport, LA, where there, daughter, Desire' Marie Prothro was born. In 1962, they moved to Bossier City, LA where their third son, Raymond Daniel Prothro was born. After moving to Bossier City, Monica was a stay-at-home mom who devoted her time raising her children and caring for her family. She served for many years as a Cub Scout Den Mother in Cub Scout Pack 107 while her sons were in the Cub Scouts. Monica never learned to drive, but she was an accomplished back-seat driver who if anyone who drove her anywhere can testify. While she lived in Louisiana, a piece of her heart remained in Connecticut. She was known for her excursions to Connecticut each summer to visit family, first by train and then by bus. She was affectionately known as "Gramma" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to care for her whole family and would prepare amazing treats for holidays. Her three sons agree that they will never have a better piece of banana bread than Mom's banana bread, which was one of her annual Christmas presents to them. Monica was preceded in death by her daughter, Desire' Marie Prothro Burkman; parents, Charles and Monica (Donovan) Peterson; her sister and brother-in-law, Catharine and Christopher Jakubielski; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Flo Peterson, brother, Raymond Peterson; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Hank Kempesta and nephew, Keith Kempesta. She is survived by her husband, James Sidney Prothro, Sr.; sister-in-law, Doris Peterson; son and daughter-in-law, James Sidney, Jr. (Jimmy) and Julie Prothro, son and daughter-in-law, David and Cindy Prothro and son, Raymond Prothro; grandchildren, Jennifer Prothro Gill and husband, Bobby, Jodie Prothro Baker and husband, Chris, Jordan Prothro Chandler and husband, Nathan, David Prothro, Jr. and wife, Amanda, Patrick Prothro and wife, Lauren, Jeremy Prothro and wife, Rochelle, Johnathan Prothro, Jessica Prothro and Daniel Prothro; great-grandchildren, Jason Bamburg, Anna Claire, Paige and Sydney Gill, Landry Baker, Jasmine, Jalynn and Janelle Prothro, Davey, Jessie and Madison Prothro, Hudson and Chase Ann Prothro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
